If you get one with a float or sensor it should have two hot leads, one to your dash bilge switch for manual pumping and one for the float switch which you would have a choice of wiring to either the hot or switched side of the ignition. Mine rarely stays in the water overnight so it was not wired hot but after a big leak surprised me last year (hull delamination)I am considering changing, I would rather drain the battery than sink the boat.

For thousands of years men have felt the irresistible urge to go to sea, and many of them died. Things got better after they invented boats.

I wired mine with a ON-Off-ON switch attached too the battery side of ignition switch. One ON goes directing to the pump (this side of the switch is spring loaded to return to OFF when released). The other ON goes to the float switch.

in all the boats ive had the ignition switch had to be on . the only way it will do it without the ignition switch on is to have a bilge pump with a sensor or float and supply it with power on one side of the switch and when the sensor or float in engaged it pumps out the water and provdes the pump with power...

Is the automatic bilge pump switch supplied by a direct hot line or the by the ignition switch? I'm hoping that the ignition switch does not have to be on in order to have the automatic bilge pump on.
