I have a 57 Collegian (302 with an Option C Velvet Drive). Runs great in reverse, but cannot get anything above low gear going forward.

I have had a couple of "mechanics" charge me to not fix it so far, so I thought I would come to the experts. Any advice on how to tackle the problem?
