Eric is ...."The Man"! He rebuilt mine and had it back to me in no time. Give it about 7-10 days depending on his workload. I believe I was was down only 1 weekend. You're probably early enough to get a quick turn as most guys are still thinking of getting wet. The quicker you get it to him the quicker you'll beat the rush.

Nelson,
Here's a link to FFM with a phone number

The trans fits real nice in one of those plastic milk crates. Make a ply top and screw it on. Then Eric can send it back in the same.

Eric,
What happened to your web site? I couldn't find it anymore!!

If I were to take/send it anywhere I was hoping maybe you could squeeze it in. Where are you located at? How much would it be to fix it? I read one of your posts that you use some tougher parts than factory, if I'm gonna pay to have it rebuilt then I'm gonna send it to you. Thing is we are coming into riding season here so I don't wanna be down too awful long.

Thanks!

i would bet you have snapped reverse plates, very common problem, they will snap from engine torsionals ie: bad damper plate, quick shift into reverse, simple wear and tear such as piston cock from hard rubber
some will pop the front cover and simply replace, but, those are the ones that like to pull transmissions twice.
what you are describing is a story told time and time again. I get alot of re-runs from the local tranny shops and the do it yourselfers, and generally people feel that at times feel the factory shouldnt have installed certain snap rings and leave them out creating more damage.

No I was full throttle when the linkage broke coming off plane into a cove. Realized it broke. Boat would go into gear forward but not in reverse. No slamming into reverse or anything like that. That's why I'm so dumbfounded, it just suddenly lost it. I work as a tech on cars and after some reading seems the trans rebuild on the borg warners isn't too bad, but I may take it somewhere if need be.

Thanks!

Nelson,
I know Eric will be by at least in the morning. He'll probably want to get more info like when the throttle cable broke what did you do? Was the engine still at a high RPM and the trans thrown in reverse? I'm going to guess this did happen and the reverse plates broke???

Eric,
Taking the trans to a "tranny" shop isn't a good idea if you are referring to a automotive transmission shop. A marine and auto trans really do not have anything in common. Besides, the only "tranny" shop to really send it too in Fantastic Finish!!!

Oh and I probably wouldn't take it to a dealership if it is a trans issue you can't tackle. Id think a tranny shop would be a better and closer bet

So I'm making a little full throttle pass into our cove and snap throttle cable breaks. Argggg... but at the same time now suddenly the boat won't go in reverse. New throttle cable in, forward works, neutral works but no reverse. Tried doing it manually at the trans. My trans is the borg warner 1:1 velvet drive. I searched and found a similar problem that somebody else had and here there is a resident expert? Any ideas? Closest dealership to me is over 2.5 hours...
