we sit on the back porch and listen to the coyotes howl at night.

Interesting story a friend of mine told me after he shot a coyote behind his home. It was tagged, so he traced it. State Farm Insurance...makes sense.

The neighbors? Ha.

I like the DPMS a lot. I cannot compare to any as this is the only one I have shot. But it is kick ass. It is sighted in super tight at 200 yards. DPMS are local to me and the shop near me sells a ton of them. I had looked at some entry bolts both .223 and .243. Cabelas delayed me on the first .223. It happens every time. The local shop had the .243 available, but at least 10 days out. He convinced me to get the AR as a lot of guys use them for the coyotes. I also like the clip capacity so if there are a few you may get a chance. Not happening with a bolt action. Secondly, this was days after my dog was attacked, so there was the rage factor (read: impulse buy) and I was simply not willing to wait. Also got a decent scope, tripod, calls etc. I always kept a .22 around in case one ever came in my yard. I am a bit more determined than that these days. They just came back to my woods three nights ago. I have seen 3, and a neighbor saw 4. No kills yet.

Death is coming.

Mike,
Nice looking gun. I have grown up around guns but only recently did I shoot an AR. I have always been partial to wood stocks and blued steel and didnt really care for assault rifles but I have to admit that the AR was the most enjoyable gun I have ever shot. Accuracy, recoil and function are all reasons my next gun purchase will be an AR. How would you rate the dpms.

You guy's are going way too far to get deer-- If I can't reach out the back door and hit them with a bat,I can't be bothered, plus the overhead is lower,no bullets, gun or noise

Wow. Sh!te dude.

I would just break out the Beretta if they were that close. That is crazy. I suppose they are that close at night behind my house but have just never crawled out of bed to look. I may need to get a motion light out back now.

Ideally, I will get me a couple of those too. Pups, I mean.

A freaking coyote nearly killed my beloved dog a month ago. She lived, but barely.

The last several years we have seen a slight drop with the deer in our area (southwest lower michigan) but a drastic rise in the coyote population.

Brad, sure is topic out there. Been following it for a couple years as it affects our cabin. Are they allowing a hunt again this year? Or are all the greenpeace types squawking too loud? [/QUOTE]

I heard they were going to allow another wolf hunt which is good because these things breed like rabits. I can see both sides of the argument regarding wolves. 1: they are not a game animal so, coming from a hunting family, it just doesn't seem right to hunt them (unless you like dog) 2: They are not only an already healthy herd of elk and deer but they are killing livestock as well. My opionion is they never should have re-introduced them in the first place.

one repellant ive heard of that keeps the deer away from the garden, is a motion sensor hooked to a garden hose and sprinkler. one of the barmaids from Rico's about a month ago hit a deer with her v-rod (bike), broke her shoulder and wrist, just had the pins removed on Monday.
i have noticed more than usual amounts of dead deer on the side of the freeway

The deer here are getting far worse every year. The road kill lately is more like autumn as far as qty. Coyotes have become crazy here too. Even in the metro areas. I set out bait and am headed back to try and call a couple in tonight. Heard them in my hayfield last night at sunset.
