I took a re-run back to the dealer yesterday, i believe i sold him 500.00 bucks worth of rebuild parts last summer, worked for a minute, took it apart, found .0045 coupling run out, inner forward cylinder o-ring missing, and both planetary bushings spun from mis-alignment, I just hate taking his money again

There's usually a tag right next to the dipstick. It may be painted over or long gone. Eric is the man though; my trans literally is a velvet drive after a visit to the gear spa(Eric's shop).
It's probably what you're thinking it is, but check the cooler. |

Ted,
We've had several threads on the Velvet Drives leaking via the front seal. Here's a recent one:
We also have a member who's in the business of rebuilding marine trans's. Eric at Fantastic Finish Marine is the guy!! Without any name tag, he'll need some pictures to confirm the trans but most likely it's a 1:1. Wecome to CCfan. Speaking of pictures, everyone else would love to see the boat too! |

i recently purchased a 1978 fish nautique, rewired everything in the boat rebuilt the steering and fuel system and the boat is awesome. recently i have had some bad transmission leaks. pretty much leaks most of the trans fluid out in about and hour of running. I dont see any leaks on the top or back of the trans. so i assume it is leaking from the front seal (between the motor and the trans) i see that rebuild kits are fairly inexspense. and i have no problem taking it apart and rebuilding it. but i wanted to know which velvet drive it is. are there any markings on the housing i can read? the trans is fairly rusty looking. I hear alot of talk about velvet drive 71c? also how do i figure out the ratio?
Thanks Ted |
