Same issue with my 87. Fixed with new ground wire.
For thousands of years men have felt the irresistible urge to go to sea, and many of them died. Things got better after they invented boats.

Ground issues. I had the same issue w/ my 88. I was able to reach the volt gauge under the dash and remove the
Black ground wire. I added another ground wire by using a clip with dual male ends and reattaching it to the volt gauge with the old and new ground wire. The I ran the new ground wire straight to the ground bar. It gave me a reading of 13 volts. The alarm still chirps but cuts off in 15 second. Will add new ground wires and ground bar this winter.

Should i just disconnect system alarm? More annoying than anything. I can
Pay attention to gauges.

The wiring to the dash is undersized, there are many threads about the issue as well as various upgrades that can be done to remedy the situation. It's not the alternator or the battery, the fixes are pretty easy and take more time than materials. If your just running stock with no perfect pass or other electrical hogs then cleaning up the connections might be all you need.

I recently purchased a 1990 Sport Nautique. The system alarm goes off normally when I start the engine and it lasts for about 1 minute until it warms up. If I turn anything on - bilge pump, lights, radio - the systems alarm will go off and the voltage indicator on the console dips from about 12 to 11 - 11.5.
I put in a different battery and still have the same issue. I put a tester on the alternator and it seems to be at 13 volts when running, so I'm not sure exactly where the problem is. Any ideas?
