Jody welcome aboard , yes it's my intention to get the software, today I was working for the dealer (a personal friend) and he invited me to join him to the CC factory and dealers meeting in june so I can work on some PCM certifications too. We would be visiting the Monterey Boats factory as well.
We are expecting 2 more Super Air by the end of the year.

Rinda = Diacom right???

If you have the opportunity to purchase the Rinda diagnostic package and want to continue to work on these modern ski boats it is only in your best interest as it will pay for itself in a short period of time. So far this week I scanned a 35 Lures twin, a MasterCraft and a Malibu at $50 a pop. I have had the Rinda software for over 5 years now. Can scan Indmar, PCM,Marine power,Crusader and Mercruiser.
Go for it!

Hobby Boats can be expensive when the hobbyist is limited on their own skill and expertise.

Eric, do you know if the Carter electric low pressure fuel pump could do the job on a 7.4 mercruiser (gm 454) with a webber 4 barrel carb?

We had a pump go out on this one, it's the one mounted on the seawater pump assembly, seems someone forgot to put the oil in there, specific replacement parts are hard to come by here.

MPI, yep problem solved, after all done and said, i had to do an oil change to because of the gas in the crank case, it was definitely loaded up and will probably need a few good hard runs to clear it out, did the plugs also

that can you speak of it's a fuel/vapor separator I think, a TBI maybe?
The volvo's came with a square one on the rear, Holley float and needles on them. I saw a rounded one on an Indmar TBI engine.

Did you solve the problem? We've had many fuel pressure regulator go bad on those TBI systems resulting on rich condition, the main bodys and regulators were Rochester, parts seems very hard to come by or NLA.

As for the 6 banger, surface on the lifters bores felt smooth, placed them with assembly oil lub and turned them by hand. Hardened to match the new cam.
This engine is like a 40 yeard old single woman, many man have touched it yet none made it work. Realizing this I regret having said yes when they showed at the shop.

make sure those lifters are spinning freely, had one on 460 that was dragging a touch and sure as *************** it took the bump out of that cam

its on the front of the engine, it has a single electric fuel pump in it, and the can contains fuel to cool the pump, it has a float to regulate...i may be labeling it incorrectly.

all the horror stories, I ran a 25hp merc on the back of a tooner yesterday, idling nicely, it sat for 10 years, all of a sudden i hear the idle spike and it blew a rod thru the side of the engine.

fuel can? pressure regulator?

I just finished a transom job install on a small cabin cruiser with a ford inline 6 (pretty popular engine here, 221cid 133hp) and a volvo outdrive.

Now I'm putting together another of those engines (Special Performance version, 166hp) with a new cam since the old one wiped a lobe after 1 hour. It was like hearing COMANDO over the carb. Hope the new cam and valve job and springs take care of the bangs.
It was a whole mess done by the "race car specialists"

seeing more and more plug ins nowadays, its time I guess
its a good thing that Merc uses only a couple different engines and plugging them in should be easier than the 40 different cars out there, you have to know the values and need to be pretty sharp.

im guessing on this one, and really shouldnt, the temp switch was 14.00 and the iac is about 80.00 will see what happens, if it doesnt clear I'll go after the MAP
the boat is dumping raw fuel, so i know its over fueling

Watch the MAP too.

With the mercury software we found a faulty gear switch sensor in one test drive, it shooted guardian mode, almost impossible to diagnose or find without the software.

specializing is key. anyone can change spark plugs. i sure could use the software, cant justify pulling the trigger yet,,
got a 5.7 mpi dumping fuel at idle and cold, Iac maybe, replaced the temp sender already....that software sure would help right now. I'll eventually have to purchase the software

Eric, I own you a call to update you, but so far things are going well, I keep learning from grand master Yoda and keep taking work.
I have invested on tools (U$D650) and have most I need but the "special" tools for sterndrives, which, we do have at the shop.
I'm considering getting the Diacom software to work on the newer EFI, what do you think?

Dont worry, It's not my plan to end as a dealership mechanic!

Still, what worries me is the mind of nowadays boat consumers... this people dumping high dollars on "high end" boat and acting like indulging kids.

Just to clarify, I do not own the boat, just got to work on it for the guys importing them, we are working on the Nautique and Monterey brands now. If things go right these people will get the dealership for Argentina and I could be working for them on the service department.

Eric, thanks for answering again.

Today I inspected closely, the unit is the new PCM vdrive, it's a 1:1 unit using dexron and attached goes the V unit, very similar to the indmars ski vee, but this one has the coupler on the front of the unit instead of below.
This V unit uses the mobiltrans SHC fluid, which by literature should never be changed unless contaminated. My worry was that we were told the boat was shipped empty of fluids.

It has 2 tiny square plugs, one on each side, (I used the spline side on a metric 12) to soft them up.

As I found the Vdrive was marking full, we sent the brand new baby into the water for the maiden voyage. I'll have some pics soon.

Talking about literature, did you read any users manual lately? it calls for oil changes every 50 hours or 120 days, impeller changes at 50 hours... is that a sign of a slow economy? or trying to sell parts to these neurotic new boat owners? maybe both?

Luch, take a pic, i believe the vee is a fill to bottem of plug. and i really thought the unit was maintanance free, what's up front?
