Sounds like the relay is incorrect. Put the new relay on but leave the big batt cable off going to the starter. Turn key and check with test light and see if the coil + lead goes dead when key is released. If it doesnt, dont do anything but unhook the + coil wire and see if test light is dead at the solenoid where you unhooked the wire. Some of the relays have different connections internally. Might try reversing the big batt feed and starter wires on the solenoid. Its tough to say exactly, but for sure a test light can solve it easily. I wish I were there to see!!

Check the ignition switch to make sure it isn't sticking in the start position. Use a meter too do this so you don't ruin your starter. This switch my work fine the first couple of times and then start to stick.

i have a 90 sport nautique the problem is boat starts fine cold but after riding for a while and you turn ign. off will not start back been having to take screw driver and cross relay to restart. thought relay was bad so have put new relay on now soon as you turn key relay sticks starter continues to turn over until you disconnect batt. have triied 3 different relays same problem with each. put old one back on to see what would happen doesn't stick but once boat has been running a while original problem resumes , also changed cable leading from relay to starter was told possible fix needless to say that didn't work. have carry to mech. he also is at a lost. any suggestions welcome
