They are called shackle bushings in Australia. I would check with a local specialist 4WD store they may have something you can use that is made of polyurethane.

When I had a blow out several years ago on mine I looked at all the bolts, links, and bushings I replaced them all. I made new links from steel we had at work and had a machinest in my shop make me 8 new hat bushings out of steel to replace the nylon ones. Not sure what that would cost from an outside machine shop but it may be worth looking into. I just used the best nylon hat bushing I had, used calipers to measure the diameter of the leaf springs and went from there.
Good luck! |

Tim, my #2 is running with the inner bushings as well. I actually took the hat bushings and modified them (basically cut off the inner side) so they simply act as a spacer now.
Guy at the local shop is right across the street from our warehouse so we had him take a look. He doesn't understand that everything is funky sizes on these boat trailers so his solution is always to cut it up and put what he knows on it. To the uninformed consumer it make sense and him lots of $$! I'm almost 100% sure Pat's has hat bushings on it, but it's been a few weeks since I looked at it. If the bolts are the same size we'll just throw some new ones on and call it good. |

1/2" bolts have 3/4" heads... so Im *pretty* sure thats what you need.
I cant imagine why you would need new hangers either way. If you put on new springs that only have the internal bushings (rather than the hats) then just put a nylon bushing on either side to center the spring in the hanger. It'll act the same way as the hat bushings. I actually think my #2 trailer is running without the hats/spacers... just internal bushings on the springs. Its run to GL and back twice, NY and NH as well without any problems. More often than not, my trailers that make clanking noises are usually a result of the coupler. Try lubing your hitch if its rusty, and making sure the coupler is tight. |

Just signing up for this one.
Tim B, you gotta know since you broke the very bolt that is making noise on Pat's trailer!! Trailer guy in town said new hangers at $300 bucks?!?! I'd rather spend $.95 and do it ourselves...plus it's original! |

Looking to get a little work done on the 84' Ski Tique's trailer. When the boat was off the trailer you could hear a clanking - figured it came from the bolt holding the springs to the trailer. Chris thought I would need this hat style bushings that he used on his #2.
Hat Bushings Can anyone tell me what they use for bushings on an 80s #3? If we are using these hat bushings what size? |
