I made mine out of 304 stainless. I had to make a third because my swim step started to sag in the middle. You shouldn't have that problem with wood though.

I admire your determination to keep the boat original! Personally, one exception I would make is for the removable platform brackets- especially if you cant locate originals. If you leave them bare (or anodized or powdercoated clear) then it would take a very careful eye to tell that they werent quite original. That way youre guaranteed to have the proper angle, and you get to enjoy the benefits of having a removable platform. Having the extra 2' of space back when it comes time to store the boat can be very handy.
Either way, I would be much more concerned about having the shape of the platform correct, as well as the location and angle that it should be installed at. Using the wrong brackets will ensure that you will screw this up! Correct Craft sometimes put wood (encapsulated in the transom glass) backers for the brackets, one for each bracket, just oversized. Other hulls didnt get any sort of backers. If the hull is fairly thick (my Tique was approaching 3/8" thick in these areas) then I wouldnt worry too much about adding them. Some big fender washers arent a bad idea though. |

I see your point Benj. I really dont want the platform to angle up. That would not be cool. I really do not want the ones that are removable. So I guess I'll keep on hunting for the right ones or get the right pitch and angle and have them made. I would rather find original ones if I can. I am completely redoing this 81 and I am a purist. Want to keep it as original as possible. The only changes To this tique I plan to make is adding a platform (so I can get in the boat from the water) and also is nice to sit on and cool yourself on a hot day, and the other change is the color from light blue to red. I plan on useing Gerbermask to keep the graphics the same like Mark did on the lime color boat he did. Would you happen to know the size of the wood inside the hull in the transom for the brackets? Is it 3 individual pieces for each bracket or one full length side to side?
Thanks, Jackie |

I guess Im not making myself clear. Whether or not your Tique had a platform originally makes no difference whatsoever. The hull itself will dictate what the brackets need to be. The curvature of the transom will dictate the swing angle, the vertical angle of the transom will dictate the rise. There were big variations between different hulls- a single degree off and your platform may end up looking really goofy! FWIW, my Ski Tique didnt have a platform on it originally either. |

Hey dana yes I'm interested. How much do you want for them? nice tique Benj. As for the angle of the brackets I have an advantage due to my 81 didn't any brackets or platform at all. And I am building the platform myself. I have a little variance with both. I do have a question tho, what is the size of the wood CC used on the inside of the hull for the bracket support?
Thanks guys, Jackie |

The Mustang 17 (17') and Ski Tique (16'5") did not share the same hull. I would not expect that brackets from a different boat (Ski Nautique, Mustang 17, etc) to have the proper rise and swing angles on the brackets. It only takes a small variation for the platform to look like crap! Either find someone who has an original set of brackets for your exact hull, or order some made for your specific hull if you want the platform to look right. I added a platform and brackets to my '78 Ski Tique for the new owner and it came out looking pretty nice. Ive seen other platforms that were added and didnt come out so hot. |

I have a set I took off my 79 Mustang. I put a set of removable brackets on this spring. I believe they are the same hull. If you are interested, let me know.

Thanks guy's for the info! Ryan, I don't have one on it now for a picture. How much do you want for the set you have? I am doing a complete restoration and wanted to put a platform on it like the ones that came with it originally. The platform is easy for me, I build furniture and lots of teak and also found the measurements for the original platform size here on CCF. Just need some brackets.
Thanks Jackie |

FYI, you can buy the new removable style brackets specifically made to fit a Ski Tique from Alloy Marine for ~$200.
