Now, this is a time I wish I was good at CAD or at least one of those graphics programs so I could draw a PICTURE!!. Let's see, if the cable goes around the the top, and if I turn the wheel this direction, which way will the cable move?? If I put the cable on the bottom, will the cable move the other direction?

There is place where the cable enters the helm and a place where it exits the helm. You just have that detail reversed. Easy fix.

Im sure you mean that he simply installed the steering cable on the wrong fitting in the helm?

Yes. Sorry, I should have gone into more detail but I was called out of my office.

Took boat apart last year,1988 SN 2001,finally got around to putting it back togethertake my son out for first ride in quite some time. Problem when I turn right is left and left is right. I haven't messed with it yet but would like to know correct way to re-install. Thanks Oh and by the way I stayed out and pulled my son foe awhile just had to get used to the whole reverse steering!
