It already has a dirty neutral, at least on the trailer without the shaft hooked up to it. I now have the coupler adjusted to where I can not get the feeler guage in anywhere around it. So HA. And IF I did send it to eric it would be nice an clean.

It doesn't matter what thickness of feller gauge you use!!!!!! it's the difference in thickness!!!!!! GET IT????? - and that's .003 max!! Have you viewed my alignment video????

my feeler Gauge reads good except for one spot that spot i can slode the .013 it is tight.

Adjust the rear with the square post on top. 7/16" open end on mine. The horizontal piece is threaded and will ride up or down when you turn the post.

Yes, I did the strut alignment before hand. It was off. The rear trundle bolt do I want to adjust it from the bottom. I did not pay any attention to it when I had it out, learning experience. If so do you happen to know what size it is. all of my big stuff is deepwell I am not sure I have room to get it in.

Adding to Pete's post, when you find that sweet spot you want to prop/brace it in that position in the bilge and eyeball it from the outside making sure the shaft is centered in the cutlass in all directions(concentic). Then align the engine to that.

Mike,
Some soapy water on the cutlass may help you to determine the "sweet" spot where the shaft is aligned with the strut. Don't forget when you find it, the shaft should be roughly centered in the log. If it's way off, then you need to do a strut alignment.

Yes, all 4 mounts need to be adjusted.

AS far as the aligning part so far I put the shaft in and took some of the weight off the front. Then I shifted the motor around for the left to right and slide the coupler inside the other one. It seems to turn okay. New shaft and new cutlass bearings. Some what stiff but still able to turn pretty easily with hand.

I wish I would have. I cleaned them while they were still on. I did not think about the adjustment part of it. I was concentrating on getting them loose for the left to right. I was shocked it was that close after putting new stringers in. Pretty cool. Okay I will play with the front and the back.

I like to think of the rear mounts as the pivot point. As you raise the front, the coupler will go down as it's past the pivot. You'll probably have to raise the rear mounts some and then raise the front to fine tune it.

It's normal for the trundle bolts in the rear mounts to be harder to turn. Did you take them apart to clean and to see how they tick?

Overall, it looks like you achieved a nice fit.

Made a new list of things to do. Still a full page. I hope the alignment gos well I was looking for the one thread but have not been able to find it. I want to raise the tranny to see what that does. And get it close and then break out the feeler guage.
Any suggestions on the proper way to accomplish this would be great.

You will need to loosen the front so that it can rotate on the axis of the front mounts as you raise or lower the rear. I had a very knowledgeable friend help me adjust mine so I was more of a passenger than a driver. I just did what he said so hopefully somebody else will chime in with a better understanding than me.

You'll want to loosen up the pinch bolts on all 4 mounts so they can rotate as you raise/lower them.

Whether you lower the back or raise the front go get the angle dialed in depends on where your driveshaft needs the powertrain to go. Presumably youre supporting the shaft in the spot where it turns freely (aligned to the strut) and aligning the engine/trans to that point?

Thanks, a Lot of work so far but very fun. I have been working on it for almost a year. It will be very rewarding to put some water under it.
I was wanting to lower the tranny and not adjust the front, Not sure on how the rear works. loosened the lock nut and tried turning the square on top but it felt pretty tight and did not want to try my luck any suggestions.

Looks great! I thought rigging the boat was going to take a couple of days, but in the end it took more like a month to rig it all and get it ready for the water. Well worth the toil!

Been a lot longer than I thought it would take but motor is in. I did a rough alignment on the side to side while I still had some weight on the hoist. Now the coupler is touching at the bottom and not on the top. My guess would be to lower tranny or raise the front. Not sure which is best. 86 SN
