Don,
You will get water out of that hose between the cooler and the RWP and the reasone it needs to be drained. You may or may not get AF to come out. It all depends how much will get past the rubber impeller of the RWP. |

So I never got a straight answer, I have already put anti freeze in the upper RWP hose, will releasing the lower trans oil cooler hose spill any of it out or just trapper water????

Pete, i was over at the D and D marine, been in business since 85", somehow they use 4 gallons per engine, i think they drain and fill thru the thermostat housing, plus i dont know what exactly they are using but it is about 8 bucks a gallon....anyways i told them i use 2 gallons of RV on eack at 3.99 a gallon...(he does about 200 boats)
first he said "you cant use rv af on an engine!" so i grabbed a jug he had on display, turned it to the back and it said good to 50 below, water systems and engines. I think they fill every void possible, they charge about the same as me, 32.00 af compared to 8.00 af x 200 boats. I'll pocket the the extra |

Don,
As long as you have drained everything, the two gallons will be fine. I never put over about 1 gallon in any of my boats. The idea is to just get any low spots that may have not drained completely. Also, keep in mind the addition of the AF is an option and just an "insurance policy" as the drain only works for many. I drained only for many years and did many a drain only winterization way back when I worked at Watercraft Sales. |

Ok so I never got a clear answer,... I have already put to gallons of AF into the RWP upper hose and have not yet released the transmission cooler hose. Will AF fluid come out or is it ok to take that hose off with the fluid in?

Don - Sorry for addressing you as Craig, just glanced at your site name.
I use a 1/4 inch copper tube attached to the inlet of a hand pump (bottle pump actually). There is a restriction part way down the dipstick port that only a small tube can access. Some guys detach the output line to the trans oil cooler & let the ATF pump out with the motor running. If you do this, shut it down immediately when it runs out. Keep trying, you will get it eventually. |

I got it, it was tucked under some other wires and stuff. On a different topic I am trying to pump the transmission fluid out where the dip stick goes in and it is not working.... ideas??

Yes to Eric -I put the aF in at the RWP hose though, by loosening the lower hose will AF fluid come out?? The reason for the thread was as many times as I looked I could not distinguish which part was the trans cooler. I will go out in a bit to look better. The manual pics do not look like mine

Just loosen the clamp on the bottom water hose of the oil cooler & pull the hose off. Nothing to it.

I got just about everything done to winterize the GT 40 motor in my 95 SN except the releasing the hose to the transmission oil cooler. Any pictures out there?
