Update: The last remaining 12x13 Federal is going on our newly-acquired '70 Mustang and is no longer for sale. Up on the trading block is the new-ish 13x13 OJ that came on the boat! The first post in this thread is current... pictures of the 13x13 coming soon.

If interested, email me: TRBenj@gmail.com

I believe both Acme and Delta both have a grace period where you can return a prop for credit if you dont like the way it runs. Either may be open to letting you try both at once (probably bill you for both up front and let you return the one you dont keep). Delta will be significantly cheaper though, as Acme's policy dictates that they charge customers full retail price in order to protect their dealer network.

I would just get the 540 and be done with it, though. Its pretty well documented that is the best prop for your boat.

So do you think if I give ACME a call they well let me test a few. I've heard great things about the 540-542. I want to go a little faster so I think I want to get the 540? What do you think

Many were purchased, some were borrowed (usually from Reid). Acme and OJ have both sent me props to try as well.

How are you able to test all these props? Do you know a prop dealer to let you test?

Update: the first post in this thread is current. Just a 12x13 Federal and the 14x16 SS OJ left at this point.

Ive got a few Acme's to try this summer on the '90 and BFN, after which Im sure I will trim the collection again... so this thread will be updated when I have more available.

Update: the first post in this thread is current. I tested a 12x13 Federal this weekend and included the performance data.

Please see the updated pricing on the 14x16 Stainless OJ as well.

Yes, the prop would be for a southwind 18. You're right, it is a 13x12. Just looking for a spare while I get the other one reconditioned.

Is this for a southwind? What year/size/power train?

The list of available props in the first post is current. No 12x13's but one believed to be a 13x12... Which may be what you're looking for anyways.

Yes, some of them might be appropriate for a Ski Tique. The list of available props in the first post is up to date. Which engine do you have?

The 12x14 originally listed in this thread has been sold. I may have another one on my Mustang 17 parts boat, so if you need one, please email me and I will check.

I'm interested in the 12x14 federal RH/ 1" shaft if still available. Mine's toast.

Bump... all props are still available, with the exception of the little OJ (which I am keeping as a non-functional decoration). Let me know if theres interest soon, else they will go to ebay. Thanks!

Thanks for your help. Once it's back in the water, I make do more analysis. It sure would be great to try a couple of different props without the bite of $200-$350 each.

Don, youre right- the 176 should pull any given prop more revs (at WOT) than a Ski Nautique of comparable power. The hull is smaller and lighter, and thus, faster. I would expect you'll see the best performance if you can prop the boat to turn right around 4600. If youre above that, then the 14x16 Federal should push you in the right direction. In theory, it may speed you up. Tough to be sure though, as the prop designs (Acme and OJ) are quite different.

If it turns out that youre over-reving with the 422, and if the budget were to allow for a new prop, then it would be interesting to try the Acme 1490 (13.5x15.5) or 1492 (13.5x16) on it as well.

I'm not sure about the revs. I guess it'll have to wait until spring when it's back in the water to find out. I thought that since the 176 is lighter, and has less drag than a 196, it might allow more RPM's. Although once they're both up on a plane they're probably similar
Let me know if you're other transaction doesn't go through.

Don, I dont really know. It depends on the application, I suppose. I couldnt pull the 14x16 OJ as many revs as the Acmes, which kept me below my power peak... so it slowed me down. If you need to dial back the RPM's a touch in order to hit the sweet spot, it may work better for you. How many revs are you pulling the 422 now?

FYI, I have someone else interested in the prop, but we're working through overseas shipping logistics.

Do you think the 14x16 SS Federal would be a good choice for a 1995 176? I'm looking to get more top end for barefooting? It's got a 4-blade 422 on there now. Stock 260hp 351W.
Thanks,
Don

Ahh, gotcha.

Let me know if you can use the 14x16. I will soon be out of the fold until next week (SJRR trip), so I may be slow to respond. Feel free to email though.

Remind me, where abouts you are in MA?
