Chris,
Once you've gotten into the hull, it's well worth your time to replace the main stringers as well. You don't want to do this project twice. They may seem fine but may be bad too. Once water has gotten into the wood it will stay there and the rot begins.

Chris - Welcome to the site, you came to the right place. Please read the other threads about stringer replacement.

Some use coosa board, LVL, One guy got pre-manufactured foam stringers, but most go with douglas fir - it is the least expensive alternative & will outlast the rest of the boat if installed right.

Good luck on your project. How about a photo?

Hey guys,

I bought a 68 barracuda three weeks ago as a winter project, pretty much a complete winter redo. The engine runs strong but could use a good tune up and some sea foam. I pulled up the floors to find a lot of delaminates glass and water logged foam. Today I removed two five gallon buckets of wet foam and am committed to doing the entire boat, then glassing it all in. The main stringers appear to be in good, but original shape; no delamination. The outboard stingers are water logged and should be replaced.

Has anyone ever used prisma pre-manufactured stringers instead of wood? This system looks like it would be a huge time saver over templating/fitting new wood ones. Does anyone have templates for wood stringers? Any help would be great.

Happy new year

Cheers
