You might want to call a few local sandblasters before you decide to do it yourself. I called three in my area this past spring when I did my tandem trailer. Two of them were pretty reasonable ($200-400), but that didn't include paint. The third one I called said $175 INCLUDING REPAINTING! I paid an extra $25 to get the color I wanted, but WHAT A DEAL!

Woody,

I think sandblasting will be best as it will get the rust out of all the little pits, etc.

However, if you must do it by hand, which I've done, I've found that a heavy grade disk
sandpaper works better than a grinder. I used a 50 grit, 6 inch disk with the metal built into the disk so it is strong. Bought them as home depot. Will put scratches in the metal so you'll need to use a heavy high quality primer.

I sandblasted mine this summer. You really don't know how many sides there are on C channel until you blast it.

DHM Trailer its been in and out of the salt before I came along .
Lots surface rust under the paint looks like bubbles, I have been scraping and grinding to get to metal. Is there any better way to get rid of all the rust without taking it to a sandblaster?
If I don't get all the little dots of rust out and repaint with tremclad will the rust come back though the paint ?
