Don't think so.
I changed the fuel filter, again, cause of a hunch my mechanic had about faulty filters collapsing and what not. All I know is now I have a happy 8 year old, can't beat that. Got him in the course this morning, he is hooked as I was. Awesome. |

Was it the anti siphon valve then?

Well, I have changed all the normal jazz in plugs, wires, fuel pump, filter, and no luck.
I had it out on the lake yesterday and decided to look at the antisyphon valve......I think I had the right part inhand, is this the anti shypon valve? Other than that, I am out of options until I get the Protec system I bought on the parts section. Should be here next week. Any advice once I get the parts in? |

Ken,
Didn't check this thread yesterday. I purchased the whole system from Racer447 over in the parts for sale section. Thanks for the reply though, Nick

skibayer - if he isn't or only needs that sensor I'd be interested in some of the other parts for spares.

Hi Nick,
I changed my 94 351 PCM Protek EFI to single port injection quite a few years ago. I have all the parts including intake manifold, computer, fuel pumps, throttle body assembly, etc. that would like to find a new owner. It worked properly when I did the conversion. Let me know if you are interested and I will get you some pictures to be sure it is the right stuff. Thanks, Ken |

The Protec EFI stuff is pretty rare I think. Your best bet is to find someone on here (which is prettly likely) who has done the conversion to Carb and distributor and hope that he didn't throw all the Protec stuff away.

I have and no luck, the part needed must be named something else cause I can't find what I am looking for anywhere. It is on the port side of the throttle body, and I was told that (Idle Control Sensor) was what it was called. I brought the boat home this week so I will take a picture later to post for reference. |

You may want to post in boat parts wanted. If someone did the retrofit and happened to have the EFI version of the Protec, then you might luck out. Did you try Skidim? |

One free thing that you can do while you're waiting for you parts is to clean up all of your wiring connections. It never hurts and it just might help. Anything that will easily come apart or unscrew, you can hit with one one of those brass tooth brushes, or some emery cloth or sandpaper. Then re-assemble with a little dialectic grease.

Went ahead and got a new fuel pump (never been replaced), new fuel filter will change this weekend. I will get the plugs and wires to change as well. Will update once complete. Thanks for the help guys, it is good to know that there is a website out here with people so willing to help. I don't have a Correct Craft dealer within 3 hours.
Again Thanks.. Nick |

ah good catch kapla, forgot all about the carb lol.
Bri that engine has the gt40 heads on it. The stock plug on the ProTec is the Autolite 764. I ended up running the NGK version which is BPR6EFS, for no other reason than I prefer NGK plugs. stomy if you haven't done the wires in a few years it would probably be a good idea anyways. Here is a link to WhiteLake's site with the wires. http://www.nautiqueparts.com/plugwiresetpcmprotecengines.aspx SkiDim sells them as well: http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=RA121040 |

The plugs aren't necessarily marine specific. You can find the ones that apply to you here:
http://www.skidim.com/products.asp?dept=1023 You most likely want the Autolite 24s, if you have the standard heads. Do you knoow what hp you have? Higher hp suggests different heads. The wires are marine spefic, mostly because or the length to get around the exhaust manifolds. The protec systems use a special wire set. http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=RA121040 Not sure if you'd want to buy the special set if you were planning to ditch the Protec? The retrofit kit would come with it's own set, which is more like the normal set. |

Thanks for the responses. I will have to check everything Friday, for the boat is in storage at the lake.
On Friday the boat ran like a top until it "warmed up". Same on Sat. Sun was well just miserable. This may sound ignorant but can I use automobile spark plugs and wires or is there marine plugs and wires? |

around $1000 as it also requires to ditch the efi and retrofit to a carb system

there is a guy in the for sale section selling off his complete pro tec system, and I usually see the coil and "dizzy" on ebay every now and then. The coil pops up fairly frequently as it had other applications. Retrofit is gonna set ya back about $500.
1600rpm does sound like limp mode, but your hesitation at 35mph at the beginning of the day leads me to think you have a coil or ignition signal issue. On a regular distributor I'd say time for a cap and rotor. On these fake distributors it either works or its bad. Which is why everyone trashes the whole system and retrofits it with a standard ignition system. I'm not sure on a testing procedure for the protec wannabe distributor, but you could test the resistance on the coils like you would normally, generally speaking coils will crap out once they get hot. Easy way to test without a volt meter is let the boat cool all the way down then go out and see if it runs normal until it heats up or if it still misfires(I believe you'll need to unhook the battery to reset limp mode). If it runs normal at first then gets worse as it heats up my money is on the coil, if it is dead cold and still runs like crap then probably isn't the coils. Of course I agree with the above I'd first check the basic fuel filter and spark plugs. |

yup protec and injection, if the problem is the protec, the only solution is to retrofit the whole thing to a conventional distributor and carb system...

I would certainly check the basics, clogged filter, or antisyphon valve at the tank.
The 1600 rpm looks like the limp mode. how old is the gas you are running? |

Hello,
I am a new owner of a 94 SN. First time out on the boat this past weekend exposed an issue, at first it ran fine, then it started hesitating and losing power at around 30-35 MPH. At the end of the weekend I couldn't get the boat past 1600 RPM with out hesitation. Anyone know what the issue could be? Fuel filter? clogged syphoning system? Motor is the PCM 351 PRo Tec EFI. Any help would be appreciated, I promised my 8 year old he could ski this coming weekend...don't want to disappoint. Thanks, Nick |
