Hey 25 XS:

I have seen very worn rudder ports not leak water past the stuffing box. You might just need to replace the wax rope (flax) and/or tighten the nut down a bit.

I think CC rudder shafts have been and still are 1-1/4" like SS201 mentioned. Just keep in mind that the CC will look "RIGHT" with a MC rudder.

Anyone know for certain if a 1991 Nautique Excel rudder packing box (and rudder) will exchange with a 1990's MasterCraft Maristar?

My Nautique is leaking about 3 gallons an hour and based on the excessive play when grasping the rudder I think either the rudder shaft or the packing box is beyond repair. I have a drivetrain from a 1990's MasterCraft Maristar (also a V-drive) and would like to swap it.

Otherwise guys: I have a drivetrain 'for sale' from a 1990's Maristar; Prop, shaft, strut, rudderbox, rudder. Also a set of manifolds & elbows that have been in a fire.
"Stock Stuff" by day... Racing Mercury outboards on the weekends.
1991 Nautique Excel "thousands" of hours...
