Sounds like a nice service but the liability scares me.

Maybe I should start a new business: "Roundhill's Morse Control Rebuilding Service", or RMCRP. I could market it as a safety improvement company. I'd have to set up shop - work bench, parts cleaner... and I'd need a few more boats for "testing purposes."

Yeah, that is not something to leave until fall with a 3 year old aboard.
Man falls into water while pulling ski rope in from the platform, and 3 year old takes off with boat. That would be an embarrassing headline. Make pulling the NSS pin a habit, especially now. My first boat didn't have a functioning lock out. I left it running when I pulled up to the launch, stepped out to get the truck, slipped and one leg went between the dock and boat, the other slammed it into full forward. I caught the ignition before I ran far enough to hit the prop, but not the gel coat in the front, my jewels, and a whole lot of pride. |

Wow, I love this site more and more each time I seek advice. After reading the responses, i am almost certain the lock-out is not working and i need to put a new spring in. Right now time is dedicated to my seasonal business, the family and getting in a couple pulls a week. But come Fall, i'll have plenty of time. Thanks for all the help.

Robert - I'm nearly certain that your throttle could be rebuilt. It sounds like the lock-out is not working? The cause is a broken spring that is easily replaced. If you go to the thread in the link above you can also see photos of a Morse that I rebuilt from my 1993. It's easy to do if you have some time, parts cleaner fluid, an old toothbrush, and a tub of white lithium grease.
Any questions - come over the mountains to Lake Stevens and we can fix it together. :) |

There is a morse two for sale in the Craig's list thread. If you opt to replace, don't toss the old one, they are scarce, and someone else would probably be able to rebuild it if you choose not to.

So my gear shifter is wearing out on my 1993 nautique. Learned the hard way when my 3 year old threw it in reverse all on her own. It is hard to find neutral and it isn't locking there either. Is this an easy cheap fix an ameauter can do or should I take it to a pro?
