Resonance occurred if I am right. Sometimes when the boat is not build in tightened manner, it gives such noises and vibrates as well.

Pat Shelly's 82 makes the same noise and I believe it is coming from the tracking fins under the the boat in the middle If the noise is coming from close to your pole that's it. I think the fins create a harmonic vibration and it resonates up thru the hull

BTW looks like I lost my 82-2001 to sanity

Three cheers for a guy who goes back in time 20ish years from a 98 Supra and 02 Mastercraft to a 79 Correct Craft! |

Sorry Pete. I've only had the boat a month and a half or so and this weekend was the very first time I've had it on the water. I was waiting to put a new carb on before that. This is the first time I have been in an older Correct Craft since I was a about 8 or nine when I learned to ski behind a 69 Mustang. I think cavitation is exactly what it was. I just wanted to ask because I had never heard the noise before on my previous inboard boats. (98 Supra and 02 Mastercraft) Not sure when the damper was changed. The previous owner didn't have a whole lot of useful info on the maintenance history of the boat. Other than that the boat flat out hauls a**! I love this thing! I feel like I'm driving an old hot-rod!

Patrick, Fill me in on some more details. "first to make the noise" from when? Is the noise new? how long have you run the boat? When was the last time the damper was changed out? |

Think about two things. A prop/hull cavitation while turning and the planetary gear set for reverse in the trans. If you ever get a chance, take a look at one of the trans manuals in the reference section. You will hopefully see how reversing the output shaft is done with the planetary gear set. Is this your first inboard? |

Yep...sounds like a good Correct Craft to me. Our 85 does this more so when turning left, and more with the original prop. It still does it with the Acme, but doesn't seem to be as noticable.

Whirring noise when reversing is common and normal. As long as it's a whirring and not a grinding or something.
The whirring at speed when turning... I know different propellers can effect this but I don't know all the details on that. |

I took the boat out this last weekend and it ran like a champ but had a whirring sound when turning at speeds above 35 or so. What could be causing this? It also made a strange noise when reversing. So closse to perfect other than that...
