Welp, Forecasting snow here this week so I took the boat home this weekend and got some more pictures of Mopar for ya.
The 69 Brother on our 1955 Farmall cub. When I lived at this house it was my grass mower and boat mover! The ball mount on it is just the right height for Correct Craft trailers. ;). Hadn't cranked it in 2 months still spinning the 6 Volt system. Fired after two starter cranks. Dad's 70 Cuda in the big barn. Brothers 72 Swinger with some new sheet metal hung. In the big barn. The boat all tucked away in the north shop. |

I think they were asking over 100k for it at some point but as you know the market for muscle cars has softened since then. He sold it at the right time.
The silver car was about as ase as you could ge tthe only real options being 440 trim, carpet, sliver special order, and black painted top. Apparently that car is the only doccumented black painted top hemi car known to exist. My brother has that Poncho not a goat though! My other uncle has a midnight blue 68 400 4 speed car with air and ice blue interior. It sported the original motor when he bought it with around 220k miles on it! He also restored a Salmon Pink 64 389 tri power Goat that won bronze at the gto nationals the year it was done. I bascially love all muscle cars but Mopars are in my blood. |

Great looking '66 Zach. What's a retailer asking for a car like that now? I was into Pontiacs back in the '80's and was on a search for a nice GTO when I came upon a restored '68 Hemi Roadrunner. It was a classic Roadrunner with no comfort options, vinyl floor, cheap bench seat, little hub caps. The guy wanted $9,900 for it which was about double that a mint GTO was going for. I knew it was a great investment, but thought the price was nuts.

This is the 66 hemi car my uncle restored a number of years ago. I think he finished it in 08. New owners of course. When he sold it (to buy a new house because he took a job as head block engineer for Dodge motor sports) it sadly became an investment car and has been passed around between several muscle car retailers. I'm kind of glad the boats we love arent worth a lot of money because the people who actually care about them get a chance to get their hands on them.

Yea the hood was a :(. Fun fact unless ordered with rally. the T/A's had black steel wheels and doggie dish hibcaps. AAR's was standard with Rally wheels. The T/A steelies were also used on hemi cars with steel 15" wheels and I think the 69 1/2 lift off hood bees and Roadrunners. This means they are $$$$$$$$$$$$.
I think my price is much more in line for a car with goofy things like that done to it. Now if someone did a high quality 340, 383, 440 clone car that was correct I would see it being closer to the 30-35 range. E bodies are $$$$. The 71 Challenger is much less desirable than the 70 but the 71 Cuda is as desirable or more than the 70. That car would be cool to dress up as an R/T SE "340" Shaker hood car being that it has the rare grill trim. If we were talking correctness the wheels would look kick ass in butterscotch with the correct Dodge doggie dishes. Put some Polyglass GT's on it and call it a day. It also needs the dual exit exhaust rear finish panel. I would almost bet it was a disk brake car too. |

You are not too far off. He said he was asking $20,000. However, it looked like he might be willing to negotiate a little. The car was clean, but, I think I would hold out for a more original car. Like you say.....had some goofy things going on with it.

Hmm. If it is as solid as it looks and taking away for a few of the goofy things being a 71 I would say 16,900? Tell me how close I am haha.
I will admit I probably know 3 times as much useless knowledge about Mopars that Correct Crafts. I'm getting a little rusty on Vin and Fender Tag codes but I can still pick out quite a few. |

Zach....You know your Mopars. The color is Butterscotch. The car is not an original R/T. A bit of a hodgepodge I suppose, but, it still caught my eye when I was driving through.
The guy that owns it said he was thinking of redoing the black stripes and leaving the R/T off. The car was originally a 318 car, but, had a 360 in it now. Any guesses on the asking price? |

It looks to be Butterscotch. One of my fave colors. It was an SE car at one point because of the small rear window and vinyl top.
Those Doggie Dishes are from the later 70's Diplomat base cars ewww... Stripes are correct. Thats an A body hood scoop gross. That front grill trim is very rare and very expensive. I'm going to say that was a highly optioned car (if original) being that it's an SE and has the grill trim option. I would guess if you look it probably has the overhead console. I doubt it was an RT originally because of the modification to the hood. R/T had atleast a power bulge. Fyi that car would look like the press virsion of the 71 T/A that never made it to production. If it had the correct T/A hood. |

If its original its lemon twist yellow, seems a little to golden colored to be original though coould be the image on my monitor though. It has a 70 TA Challenger style hood on it (which if original was all fiberglass), and at least that part had to have been repainted.

I was driving home yesterday from Wisconsin, and saw this '71 Challenger in an auto repair garage parking lot. Thought it was a timely find with this topic going.
Anybody know what color Dodge called this one? I talked to the owner, and it is for sale if anybody is interested. I can put you in touch with the guy. |

Nice ride Mark. Something about luggage racks gets me going. My best friend and I were supposed to be first dibs on an amazing 70 Challenger that both of our dads used to ride around in as kids. (their child hood baseball coach). It was a hemi orange 383 4bbl power bulge hood auto with white side stripe and BURNT ORANGE INTERIOR! That option was very rare let alone on an orange car. This spring we found out she had sold it to an unknown source. If either Ryan or I would have aquired it she still would have been able to see the car at her leisure. Now it's probably going to be restored and sold at a profit.
Most of the time the 440 6bbl cars were faster than hemi cars when tuned correctly. There was a test in 69 1/2 with Ronnie Sox driving a stock 4 speed 6bbl Roadrunner. They adjusted the carb linkage removed the air cleaner and pumped up the front tires to around 50lbs and he ran consistant 12.80's on stock biasply tires. Hemi was rated 425/490 and 440 6bbl 390/490. The 440's made the power a little lower in the rpm band. Wagons are cool . I feel a change in direction of this thread... Pete you sure your dad didn't get sold a wagon with a max wedge in it ;). |

The 6 paks were wicked, you drove around on the center 350 cfm 2 barrel most of the time, so it got fairly decent mileage (even though mine had 4.56:1 rear gears - stock was 3.90:1) the two outer carbs were vacuum operated and just snapped open at around 4K rpm, and it was hold on to the wheel time. Took alot of adjustments to get the carbs to open at the right time, and you don't want to put the carb return rods on backwards cause they will jamp against the manifold, and stay open, found that little tidbit out the hard way. Good thing the cars had decent disc brakes on them. The 440 6 pac's were way more powerfull than my little 340/6.

I was a teenager but I'll never forget the Chrysler station wagon my dad got. He knew nothing about engines and would simply tell the salesman he wanted the biggest engine. Well, I'd have to say he got the 440 and the triple deuces in that wagon. I wasn't of driving age at the time but I do remember my brother putting his foot to the floor!!! It, even being a station wagon, it was still an experience!!

You would of liked my buddies 70 R/T challenger convertible, it was red with a white top, white stripe, 440 6 pack, 4 speed pistogrip (coolest shifter ever made BTW) every available option from A/C, power top, power windows and locks to the rim blow horn. It was one of a group of 12 identical cars made for dealers early in the 70 model year (allegedly the first day of production). He bought it off a guy in the Navy for 1500 bucks in 81, sold his lime green AAR and kept this car around until about 10 years ago. Its undergoing (probably done by now) a complete nut and bolt restoration, (not that it needed much it was probably 85% or better original equipment when he sold it) and the new owner probably won't ever drive it again, last one sold for 350K.
This isn't it, but all 12 of them looke dthe same. |

For some reason the AAR never reached the high prices of the hemi and big block 6 bbl cars. To my knowledge the only special fender ever made for 70 was the right front sans the antenna hold for a AAR. Now the 71's had gills if the were cuda and none if barracuda. B5 is in my top two colors on an AAR.
Before the muscle car boom dad and I almost bought a orange 70 T/A white vinyl top and white interior..... awesome. A friend of ours has an F8 dark green metallic TA. Dad also almost bought a rootbeer white interior bench seat column shift AAR. Oh back then. |

Mine went to NH in 82 or 83, mostly sat in the guy I sold it to's garage, then moved on to Maine about 20 years later. Guy in Maine returned it to its original colors, found 2 build sheets in it, and hunted me down for the original engine block. (which I knew where it was, and got him together with the guy who still had it. Said it was one of the straightest, rust free AAR's he had ever run across. Last I knew it sold for 45K, or so around 1999 or so. I sold it for $3500.

Those were the days. Love those AAR's. This was my friends back about '75,just a used car then Thats me in the front. A couple of old friends from those days and I were just talking about this car last week,no one knows what ever happened to it. The owner,in the pic too, kept it for many years. We know he sold it and had some issues and kinda dropped off the face of the earth.

It was lemon twist, I had the two little chin spoilers then went on the front fenders, but never put them on. Was a real AAR BS23JOB VIN, me and two buddies had 3 of them in town. Both of theirs were 4 speeds, one was lime green, the other was the B5 metallic blue color, even back in the early 80's it was tough getting parts for them there was basically no aftermarket for them at the time, and the factory was running out of NOS parts. I got two of the last "hemi" fenders ('Cuda's used different fenders than Baracuda's to fit the 15" wheels) in the service parts system, and the last muffler, which had to be shipped back from Australia. I had a parts guy that could find almost anything in a delaership in the next town.

Put an X pipe on it it will make it sound more exotic. Mine are delta flow 40's which are quieter than original flow 40's which might be what you have on the Stang. Sometimes I wish I had originals sometimes I like less noise (it spins 3600rpm at 65mph :S).
Mark It's a real AAR the antenna is on the rear ;). I love AARs. Was the car Vitiman C orange?? or Lemon Twist yellow? Chrysler had the coolest color names. |

Mark C. ....Love the 'Cuda. White w/ Black stripes is so cool!
Zach.....You mention you have Flowmaster 40's on your car, I am (I mean my son is), is concerned with loudness of the 40's. Nice tone, but lacking some decibels. Any thoughts on how to get them a little louder? I am thinking of getting him an "H" pipe to get some loudness. By the way, your dad has fine tastes in trucks!! What color is it? |

Here you go, my 70 AAR Cuda back in 1981. 340 six pack, torque flite automatic, 100% original except for color, and two new factory front fenders, it was vitamin C yellow when I bought it but I didn't like the color at the time and repainted it white (It wasn;t in quite as good a condition when I bought it)

Haha awesome. Luke just loves the WS6 cars. His DD is a Seebring and he has a in process 72 Dart Swinger.
Any make of truck that says camper special is cool. Dad had a 68 camper special D200 with a 383 in it. My 67 has flow 40's on it and when I was 17 I drove it that way because I bought it and built it haha. |

What the heck happened to your brother? He doesn't have Mopar Radar Red flowing through his veins?
Personally, I am a Ford guy. '68 F250 Camper Special w/ a 390 creating the low end torque duties which is channeled through a C6 and directed on to a Dana 44 out back (can you tell I have been watching too much Horsepower TV :) ), and a also '96 Mustang GT w/ a 5 spd and Flowmasters 40's which my 23 year old son drives.....CAREFULLY! He knows if he doesn't....... |

New Castle Indiana haha. There is still a lot of cars around there. That 68 X is great. Basically any GTX gets me going. 68 GTX is probably my favorite post 67 B body. Have you ever been to the Mopar Nationals?
The 70 cars were the same center chunk and basically the same interior Just different grill/tail panels. |

The '66-'67 B bodies are very nice, but, there is something about the '68-'69 B bodies that gets my blood to boiling. Not sure if the '70's are the same or not. I assume similar with minor tweeks??
Here are a couple of pictures I took this afternoon of two ads I bought in Noblesville in the early-mid 90's at a flee market. I have had them in my office ever since. They are cardboard backed, and covered with plastic. Nice old ads. I also found similar ads for a '69 Mach I, and a '69 Chevelle. '68 and '69 were the pinnacle of automotive design and performance in my humble opinion. By the way, when you say our hometown was one of the biggest Dodge areas, are you talking about Indy in general?? If so, I never knew that. Cool info. |

66 and 67 b bodies do strange things to me haha. My uncle has a silver 67 R/T drop top red interior black top with air.(currently under the knife). Previous to that he restored a silver 66 440 trim #'s matching hemi 4 speed car. Black painted top. Sadly a house is more of a priority than a hemi car haha. Our home town was the biggest Mopar town in the nation no lie.
