I have a 79 SN with a Commander engine. Have had it for less than 10 years. My brother has an 88 SN with a PCM, bought new. Major difference from my view is with the Commander it is a real PITA to remove the spark plugs. The "logs" sit so low over the plugs it is no fun pulling plugs.

Hi Jack, welcome to the club. It's nice you have those stainless manifolds, especially down in that salt water. I like those cuddies. Upload some pictures of your boat and engine, etc. We LOVE pictures. Regarding the Commander manual, it's in the reference section. Click Manuals and scroll to the bottom. It's in the last row. It's easy to miss as it does not say Commander, but Ford 302/351 Manual. The parts manual is there next to it. These are the original Commander manuals from a previous boat I had with the 351 in it. I do not have the closed fresh water cooling system. I have been meaning to take a couple pics of the engine, but I keep forgetting. I'll do it tomorrow.

The stainless manifolds are definately more salt water resistant. A few pics of the motor would help to see if it may be fresh water cooled. I want to say mine was labeled a 300, at the time I could find no info at all about it so I just had to learn as I went. Someone posted that they had the Comander manuals for the reference section, but I've never actually looked for them. I lurked her occasionally at the time and didn't become a member until I finnaly got a CC.

Ah this is an awesome forum, I've already learned a lot! My boat is a '76 CorrectCraft 210 Cuddy and it appears to have a Commander 351w in it. Other than the log style stainless manifolds with the big "Commander" emblem on them, is there any thing else different from the PCM. I didn't see a "Commander" owners or service manual in the reference section, are they available somewhere else? And I'm just curious, what is different about a Crusader that makes it more salt water tollerant than the PCM?

There have been far more 351's than just PCM's, Commanders, and Crusaders over the years. To determine which 351 you may have; What model & year is your boat? |

I found that the Commander and the PCM engines are fairly similar parts wise as long as youre looking at motors built about the same time. I think there is actually some info in the reference section now for the Commanders. The biggest difference is the log manifolds, mine were stainless and I almost kept them, they were just cool. Crusader and PCM are now the same company now, Crusader motors are marinized specifically for salt water PCM's are not. That's a very basic run down, I'm sure there are better answers if you have more specific questions. I
As for the acronyms, PN is Planet Nautique, no idea on NSS, I'd have to see how it was used to get a idea. |

Hello everyone, new guy here. I've been reading through these forums and wow! what a wealth of valuable information! There are a couple of things I need to clear up though...
PCM 351w and Commander 351w? and Crusader What is the difference? What does NSS stand for? How about PN? |
