Yes, I would not even attempt a total re-cover without a steamer.

If you decide to recover you want a 4 way streach vinyl for the compound curves. A heat gun will also help.

I have repaired vinyl tears with a patch kit that I bought at,... yup, Walmart. You mix the colors to match, black is as easy as it gets. Then spread it on like butter only into the tear. Take some wax paper and wrinkle it up a little to get some texture to match what you have, and let it cure. You can't even tell it was repaired. I did it to my back seat, and no one ever noticed. Good luck

Jim,
I know some have stretched new vinyl over the old pod. I also know Watercraft Sales (CC dealer) have done several by doing the same with new vinyl. It can be tricky and you will need to find the direction of stretch on the new vinyl. |

I have purchased a 1997 SN with a 1-1.5" gash/cut located on the top left edge. This defect did not damage the pod interior structure. These pictures do not illustrate how the vinyl has been slightly lifted/detached from the the base under the cut. This detach area is about the size of a quarter coin.
I believe it would be expensive, and possibly impossible to replace this instrument pod. So I am searching for the best method to repair this defect. Any suggestions? BTW: Merry Christmas to all! |
