Ryan,
The fold we made in the carpet with the wood/drywall screws technique worked:) That 3/4 inch fold is very tight and severly bonded.
Thanks.......Tom

Tom I might of found the solution up here in Oklahoma. It may require the transport of the doghouse 80 miles, but will look professional. I'll call this evening when I get out of my meetingd today.

You removed the carpet, which was used to hold the vinyl tight. You could have your new carpet sewn back to the existing vinyl (maybe an inch higher if needed to grab above the old stitching holes) and then reinstall like original design. Seems like a lot or work now though only to be tore off soon. Go bare!

Thanks John,
The vinyl is pulled around to the inside of the motor box and glued to the plastic motor box housing. I called Nautique Skins today and they told me their skins require glue or sewn at the corners. In fact George at Nautique Skins told me most folks glue the carpet corners. They ship their skins with the top of the carpet sewn only and the rest of the carpet is left "Long" for the buyer to wrap and glue when installed on the box. So I will get some practice before I install my new skins down the road. Thanks for providing input using a alternate solution.
Thanks.......Tom

I hydroturfed my entire motor box but that would cost more money for you at this point I'm guessing. Using this stuff requires a different skill set as well but it's an option. I think the glue will be more than adequate to hold the carpet down. How is the vinyl held down though? Did it have anything besides the carpet keeping it in place?

Why leave the red carpet? The gray carpet and glue was left over from the floor. It did not cost me anything just some labor. Who knows it may be 2 years before I get around to new skins. The question is....Has anyone replaced it before and how did they do it.
Thanks.......Tom

You should have left it for when you do the interior, or just do the motorbox now and do it right.

Pete,
I used the Henry 263 for the floor and panels. After drying for a week I wanted to remove a small piece under the bow. I actually tore the 20 oz. carpet in pieces trying to get it off the floor. That glue is no joke! Henry 263 is what I planned to use to glue it to the vinyl on the motor box. I also plan to use clamps and small wood pieces to help with the adhesion.

I plan to install new skins next winter. (budget is maxed out on boat for now) So I am trying to limp along until then. The boat had red carpet and we changed to gray sio I am forced to change the motor box carpet.
Thanks.......Tom

Tom,
I'd hate to see the carpet come off down the road (lake). Have you considered installing the new like the factory did? They probably put some thought as well as experimenting into it.

Now we need to replace with new carpet. Any suggestions on how to install the carpet would be great. One idea is to cut, fold and glue the top edge (approx 1/2 inch) onto itself so there is not an unfinished edge under the piping. Then glue the carpet to the vinyl. For the corners the only method I can think of is cut out "pie" shaped sections vertically, pull together and glue (The factory had these areas sewn together). Then wrap around the bottom of the box and glue.
Thanks.......Tom

We started removing the carpet from the bottom of the motor box this weekend. I was surprised to find that it was sewn to the vinyl under the "vinyl piping" and sewn vertically on the corners of the box. We used a razor blade and cut the thread below the piping and on the corners. Pulled the carpet off the box and cleaned the old glue off with scotch brite.

Thanks.......Tom
