Hey there. I think you are on the right track with repair. As I understand it, new replacements are nearly impossible to find. I had the same cracking and fixed it this winter with 2 part epoxy and a washer for reinforcement. If you are doing the areas near the screws going to the fiberglass, before you decide to reinforce, make sure your screws are long enough to seat with the extra width of the dash and washer. Make sure to use an epoxy that binds plastic.

I was in the middle of replacing the radio in my 1997 SN when I diecovered a crack in the lower right portion of my dash pod.
Here is a couple pictures of my dash pod. As you would look at the dash while sitting in the drivers seat, the crack is located on the bottom right side of the dash. Near the corner screw closest to the steering wheel. In the pictures the dash pod is laying upside down, so you are looking at the back side. I would like to repair the crack, and I am trying to decide what to do, and what type of glue to use. What type of material is the pod? Plastic, or what? I think it is some sort of plastic. I could us a good two part epoxy, right? Would fiberglass with a small amount of fiberglass mat be better? The eproxy would be easier, and faster if it did not matter. Next would you reinforce it? With what? Any suggestions besides repalceing the dash? |
