And I'll add to Eddies comments in that there seem to be two types of pumps for Fords. One type has 2 diaphragms and the other has 1 diaphragm and a seal on the diaphragm actuating arm.But if there is no connection to place a sight tube,it doesn't matter because you have no
way of knowing if it's leaking or not. |

Chris, It doesn't matter how many diaphrams a pump has. The fact is that there is no way to completely seal anything around the mechanical pump arm pushing up and down on that diaphram. A tear in the right place on the diaphram can open a hole right past the pump arm into the block. The pump itself is designed to prevent fuel from pouring into the bildge in case of a failure. That means either out the overflow tube to the carb or in extreme cases, past the pump arm into the oil sump. Either way, it isn't getting dumped into the bildge. |

Luke, That's what the group is here for!  Also, I'd say there are more than 20 threads on oil and the importance of the ZDDP here on CCfan.

Im boating in Angola IN ,and no body told what to put in it i didnt get a book with the boat so i was taking a guess. I kinda thought the same thing about the oil sending unit figured it was a bad connection some where because the fuel and the voltage gauge kinda acts up to. I will find out the mechanical gauge reads and lets you know.

Question for the community - Will the marine fuel pump allow gas to get into the crankcase? I thought it had a double diaphragm to prevent this.

Yes, they can but typically they will fail open (no current) or closed (all current). A low gauge reading can also come from extra resistance. Clean all your connections (the complete wiring harness is always a good idea) from the sender to the gauge and the gauge power supply. Make sure the sender itself has a good ground. It's ground is the pipe thread to the block. Never use any type of thread sealant there. Tell us what you find after you put the mechanical gauge on it and change the oil. BTW, did someone tell you to put the 10-40 in it? Maybe the guy at Autozone?

Thanks for the info guys hope it takes care of the oil pressure I'm Gianna put a Mechanical gauge on it to just be sure. Does the oil pressure sending unit some time fail that often on these motors?

I'd like to add the the 20/50 should be one with a high ZDDP content to protect your flat tappet engine. This is explained in all the oil threads. Valvolene VR1 racing (gray bottle) is a good one. Change the oil again and see what happens. You'll want to do this ASAP to prevent damaging the camshaft.
Are you sure your gauge is correct? A mechanical pressure gauge T'd in at the sender is a good way to check it. |

search for oil threads here and you will find that a 20/50 might be better.
whether that has anything to do with the low pressure is speculation but nobody runs 10/40. |

i have a 85SN 2001 i recently just bought the boat. I ran it for the first time and the fuel pump quit, it leaked gas into the crankcase. So i changed the oil and i overfilled it but i drained the extra back out to close to normal range. Last wweekend i got a chance to run it agian and now i dont have hardly any oil pressure only around 20 psi at 2000rpm. Any ideas of why?
