Tim commented on the mounts. Depending on how the stringers were done is key to the way they mounted the engine mounts to the hull. That area is normally foamed and if that's the case, the foam will not support the engine. With your bad hull clearance with the 13" Federal, get us some pictures. WHAT IS the WOT RPM with the 13 x 13?? |

Sheridan,
The majority of inboard boats use tapered props matching tapered shafts. Master Craft happens to use a spline set up. Since it sounds like you are looking for a prop, take a look at the proper prop installation thread BTW, if one end of the shaft is bigger than the other, chances are good that there's a taper. I also am curious about that family owned marina you got the boat from. Is their main business bass boats? I state this due to the unusual engine mounting they did in the Southwind plus the prop running so close to the hull. What prop are you looking at? You may want to continue posting in your other thread concerning your prop. |

Just reread your post and saw you weren't asking about the shaft. AFAIK all ski props are tapered but of corse I may be mis-guided!!

As far as I understand all inboard shafts are tapered prop end, for the other side it will only be tapered if you have an aftermarket ARE shaft. If the coupling looks original it will not be a double taper shaft, the coupling end is straight and a heat shrink fit..

I see on some props people will say 1 " tapered and some just 1"
Do I have to pull my prop to tell if its a taper? it looks like it would be and I would think if not it would have a locking screw in the prop? I am new to inboards sorry for stupid question. boat is 74 southwind 20FT 13x13LH 1" super cup Federal prop |
