I'm pretty sure that I used carb cleaner because Lewy said so. He's knows his stuff.

Thanks. There seems to be some disagreement on whether carb cleaner (leaves some residue behind) or MAF cleaner (dries clean) is better. Any thoughts?

Whoops! Let me clarify,

I sprayed carb cleaner into the solenoid part of the body as per lewys post and dried allowed to dry upright.

Greets from Ireland,

I took it off and removed and cleaned the mesh. I'm pretty sure I sprayed carb cleaner into the IAC body as well. It was pretty grubby so def needed doing.

Resurrecting this topic... 2001SAN, was cleaning the IAC successful? Did you remove the mesh filter or just clean it in place?

I haven't started the job yet but it looks somewhat straightforward. Any other suggestions before I start? Thanks.

Be careful with this one. Ford used several different IAC valves, some can be cleaned, some not. You probably can't do any harm cleaning the passages with a Q tip or the like, but chemicals may damage internal components. I'm travelling now and don't have access to my reference material, but a google search should answer your questions of what you have and what you can or can't do with it.

Have been trying to post this all day for you. But the forums are having problems. Keith is working on the posting problem.

Remove and clean with some carby cleaner. Clean the mesh filter in inlet manifold port as well. Keep the IAC assembly upright with the solenoid on the top and spray the carby cleaner liberally. Leave it this way to dry, so the fluid does not find its way down into the electrical body of the solenoid.

Here is a video of ISC solenoid operation. With it removed you can check the operation.

If you're going through hell, keep going
