Wow, I'm going to post an almost identical question!

Different model and year, though, so I'll start a new thread.

I managed to pull mine out about a 1/4 in catching a wakeboard rope at idle. The slow speed didnt cut the rope an it got tight enough to begin to pull the shaft out of the coupling before the boat stalled or was turned off. I ran it a couple of years like that with no issues, alignment was good and it never moved again. I suspect there are plenty of people who have done this and never noticed it or have no idea what happened to cause it.

I think this is normal. However, if you have not aligned it recently, now would be a good time to unbolt the coupler & look at it closely.

Can you post a pic of what you see? If its a heat shrunk fitting I would say its not slipping. These couplings don't move easily. It's not a Replacement ARE is it? Bones.

skierrick here with a question. My American skier ford 302 runs great, but I noticed my drive shaft I can see about a quarter inch of the keyway sticking out of the coupler. Does this mean my drive shaft is moving or coming loose. Is this an easy fix. I dont know if its been like this since I bought the boat.
