Here we are 5 years past and the project hull still sits. Sometimes we oversell our time and need to step back and analyze our priorities. Have done just that and considering looking for an interested party to take over this restoration. If someone out there has an interest please get in touch.

Time to wake up my boat projects for the season. First out of the garage to make some room is the Starflite. We are thinking of taking this hull south sans engine, so I can work on it this coming winter in Florida. Will need to do some temporary reinforcements on the hull before the trip. The thought is to build a new garage to work in and sell off our Ct home.

Jack...all I have found is handwritten 16 and 1-00 on the interior panels...look on the back of the old vinyl covering, mine is date stamped 12-56...I think the 16 is the length of the boat.

I can add that on Dad's 63, the Hull number (SN1330) is stamped on a lot of different places, seems everytime I look closely at a different part of the boat I find the hull number (Seat bases, footboard, framing on the underside of the dash, dog house, etc). I am fairly confident those numbers you find are in deed the hull number.

In the case of the "16" I am guessing the trailing "6" just didn't get "stamped" hard enough...

Those 3 digits are all I have for the Hurricane. I have temporary registration but I haven't heard back yet as to whether I'm going to have any issues getting it permanently registered and titled. It came from a non title state and lack of documentation makes it difficult on these old things.

Another boat with no tag or id numbers in the dog house or any of the other known places to look. Thats three for three. Just can't figure why they all seem to be missing tags. So, how much does it really matter if we know the year made, model, etc.? Probably not all that much. I have the motor id...

and the numbers off the combing behind the rear seat, left side then right...




these numbers, 16 and 166 show up in numerous places hand written such as behind interior panels etc, so I'm sure have some significance. Judging by the motor tag which I have to think is original, the motor is a 1957 vintage. Perhaps the boat is a 1957 or a 1958. If Art or anyone could decipher the numbers it might be a help.

My thanks to the well wishers most specially Drew because he and his mother in law Ann made this all possible. Drew's father in law, Dave owned this Star Flite for many years and rode it until it had very little life left before retiring it with, I am sure, the intent to get it back in the water. In fact he had bought much of the material necessary to do the job, however, health issues intervened and the work put on hold. I did, early on, encourage Drew to take on the project, however, he has many irons in the fire and so as a side I offered to give fair price should he decide to give it up. The request was honored and I am thankful for that and we now have a big project ahead of us. If I can do near the job on this one that Alan has done on the Hurricane I will be pleased. The framework seems to have many similarities and so I have excellent reference materials. My son Burton and I will be doing this together as we have done the 1950 Junior Utility project. He gets the benefit of my woodworking experience and I the benefit of his mechanic skills and general boating knowledge.

Hey Jack, I'm VERY glad to see my father-in-law's CC Starflite made it safely to its new home in Southern New England, and into the hands of someone who really appreciates it. Keep me posted on progress; I'll be sure to check back on here occasionally!

Looks like you'll need some bondo or duct tape on the starboard side wall there.

We left Connecticut early Sunday for Milton Mills, Maine where we proceeded to rebuild a lot of the trailer and make ready for the half day ride back home. After loading all the interior panels and other loose items that belonged to the boat from the attic of the barn, we hitched up. I would have liked to have seen a little more tongue weight however the balance was not bad and the effort to shift the boat forward seemed a bit unnecessary so we decided to move on. After a few stops to check our load, the first of which we got out the jack and checked for looseness on the hubs, we proceeded to CT on a nice five hour ride through the mountains. The day was perfect and the ride uneventful even as I worried about breaking a spring and other such things so, by late afternoon we were had the Star Flite safely parked in our yard at home. I have a few pictures to post later in the day.

Daytona Parts have the rebuild kits you the YH's. I did mine on my Y block a couple years ago.

The only issue with the 327"s is the exhaust manifold has a thin spot and they burn through. They can however be repaired.

Great find!! I am going to have to give up the Fin's login to you if you keep this up. I had my fiberglass fin boat at a show a few weeks ago and the owner of the turquoise Starflight stopped by. It could be for sale... How to explaine that one to the wife!

As you might imagine there is a bit of fin fever going on around here. My son is the promoter and then he leaves me to deal with my wife trying to explain the need for another. He is not married presently so can be free to by "junk" as he sees fit lol. Ever since I saw the turquoise one in Seattle I have had a hankering for the Starflite though i still like the more pointer fins on my Atom Skier. What my real desire is to work o a plank boat. The plywood ones are a bit restricting as the sheet goods need repair and hard to decide if patch or replace. I am not a huge fan of the scarph joint myself. i think there are very few or these around and especially with the fins.

Jack...Yes I do have one in my wreck collection,will post progress when i'm ready to reveal what I am up too,real glad you have a 327 one less to bid against for Y block parts ...you will be surprised how well they hold up,leaving for a year will be good if she is wet inside just strip out the engine and let her dry out under cover with some air flow.

Thanks for saving her as i don't think there are many left I have tracked around 7 so far.

Hey Roger, Your on it. I saw the one you bought (least I think that was you)Hows it coming along. A real project there, but they all are. I need to finish our Junior first so I expect this one to sit about another year in a nice protected cover as opposed to where it is now and then it will be taken apart and rebuilt.

This one is set up with the 2 carters same as my "Nomad" " was before they converted it. I am in hopes of taking the 4 barrel off "Nomad" and converting back as I do have the Carters for it.

Hi Billy, Your slipping, it only took you 14 minutes to reply. I just did a check on the engine number as I have yet to find the hull tag. It is a 16 ft. Correct Craft of the 1957 vintage and as you say it is very much like "Doc Time" with the exception of fins I believe. What you don't readily see is the work I am sure you know it probably needs. This is an AMC 327. I seem to be a magnet for that engine somehow.
