I actually have a place on Badin Lake and can always find a place to ski in the mornings and evenings - during the day is much like any other lake. Depending on what you are looking for each offer things that others don't.
If you are looking for restaurants and bars accessible by the water and endless cruising for a week than Norman is for you. If you want a smaller lake with a couple of restaurant's options and more of a "camp / less commercialized" place to spend the week then Badin is a good option. I have only been to Hickory once so I cannot comment on it. If you decide to go to Badin let me know when you will be there and where you are planning on staying. Good Luck |

Hello Everyone. I need some local knowledge on a couple of lakes in NC. I am in the triad and grew up on Badin. I am looking at vacation homes within an hour or so of the triad. I have narrowed it down to Badin, Norman and Hickory (would be open to others though). Would you guys who know NC lakes well give me some advice on Norman and Hickory, dock and shoreline regulations, lake level fluctuations, water depths/issues, ski conditions, and anything else you may find pertinent. I'm thinking about trying to explore Norman or Hickory this coming weekend with a realtor as I don't own a boat yet(want an 98-99 sport or super sport). Thanks,
