Your Right. 5/16 X 1" course thread screws and easily removable (thank God). Best new price I could find was $97 plus shipping, so I went to work with a hammer and clamps for an hour. Had to beat the H*ll out it and use tremendous clamp pressure to true it up, but when edges were dressed and finished it looks lie new again.This fin was totally bent 20 degrees off its axis and the bottom edge completely curled over. Judging by the effort I put into it to restore it, it had to take just as much force from the impact to bend it and yet the screws were still factory tight and the fin never even moved from its original mounting surface or even stressed the gel coat - AMAZING!

Tracking fins are readily available from dealers like N3 Boatworks.
I assume by "comp Nautique" you mean Ski Nautique. The fins will be screwed and not bolted to a '97. I do not believe the bilge extends all the way forward to the battery box, and there will not be access to it from those compartments. |

'97 comp Nautique. Fins are attached with what looks to be Phillips head machine screws. Will experiment with removal of first one and positively identify. At this moment something just popped into my head, that being if they are in fact bolted and nutted, one possible access point may be thru the battery well and the floor locker well just ahead of it.So far have not located anyone who sells these fins so when I do get it removed I may have to "beat it to death" to restore its shape.Well, Hi-Ho Hi-Ho its off to work I go.

Most were attached with screws, as through bolting would leave a much larger hole if the fin gets ripped off! I have seen some 70's boats with bolts though... so inspect closely. If you cant get to the back side, then its a pretty safe bet they are just screws. Either way, try loosening them and see what happens. What year boat?

Hello fellow Nautique fans
This is my first post, but will be followed by a few others. Today I hit a huge underwater rock and bent the forward stabilizing Fin brutally. I need to remove it for repair or replacement, and I see several machine screws mounting it to the hull (accessible from the hulls exterior). Does anyone know if theses are held to the hull by captive nuts? I see no way of getting to them if they aren't captivated without tearing up the carpeting and floor! |
