I used mine in salt water on and off for years..I did put a fresh water cooling system in 4 years ago..but be for that I just flushed it after every use..the problem I'am having now is restoring the boat the mounts for the engine are seized, but everything else seems ok..one thing to look close at is the exhaust manifold to riser gasket is not leaking.(where the two halfs meet, held together by 4 bolts)if there is rusty water marks runnig down the out side of the manifold, the manifold and riser(top) need replacing,or the gasket at very least.. this top riser sepperates the engine exhaust and water outlet..if the gasket is no good water can leak down into the engine(THATS BAD). salt water carries more electrollis(spelling?)and is very hard on these gaskets.they can be replaced with newer style gaskets made of a metal material not the cheep paper crap..zinc plates should be used on boats run in salt water also.mostly on the prop shaft..
hope this helps |

I use mine in brackish water, tidal river. We flush after use and so far no problems with that. Look at the freeze plugs and manifolds for signs of rust. Check the packing on the drive shaft. If it leaks much it wil sling water everywhere and can cause exterior rust on engine and trans case. The worst thing for me is the painted trailer rusting. 150 hours is pretty low, how old, or should I say new is the boat?

I am considering buying a used nautique that has 150 hrs. mainly saltwater use. It was flushed after every use. Anybody have experience with using a nautique in saltwater? I would appreciate hearing from you.
