For those that have not had or never will have the -8 hot tub experience, it is very interesting. The trip to the tub is an assault on the body the second you crack the door to head out. This is made worse if your body is wet and cooled by the indoor pool. The rookie will take a towel out with them only to wrap themselves in a 0 degree towel 20 minutes later when they exit the pool, this does more harm than good. Your skin will freeze to the stainless hand rail if you let it linger there. Once in the pool it is very comfortable, but your hair will actually freeze solid just 12" above the 104 degree water, your ears can frostbite too. Some wear stocking caps or you can reverse the freezing with a quick dunk. Getting out is a pleasant surprise. You have about 1 1/2 to 2 minutes of comfort due to your now elevated body temperature to observe the steam billowing off your surface. Notice my daughters in the photo are not in a typical shivering stance. After 2 minutes though it goes back to an assault again. All in all its good fun. I would rather go out to the hot tub than get into the too cold (for me) indoor pool.

Having now done both,I understand why my parents would leave in November and return in April. I also now understand why we thought outdoor winter sports were great too. Thats because since we can't do our normal summer fun stuff we try to convince ourselfs these other things are just as good and subconsciously try to believe that we are really lucky to be able to experience them.

What do you do in MN when the temp rises to -8? You hit the pool, outside of course.

OK it was a hot tub, 100 yards from lake superior in two harbors MN. The temp was -8, wind 20 mph gusting to 29. It was not just us, there was a family with a 3 year old in there too.
