Sit right back: So, Ginger or Mary Ann?

Between men of a certain age, that question has popped up for decades: Hollywood diva with va-va-voom vs. farm girl with coconut-cream pies.

I thought about that Thursday upon hearing of the death of Russell Johnson, 89, who played the professor on "Gilligan's Island." A few years ago, he gave me his answer on the Ginger/Mary Ann conundrum.

From time to time, informal online polls pop up regarding this crucial issue, and it seems Mary Ann gets the edge. Still, as far as I can tell, there's never been a definitive survey on this vital issue. Surely, if Harris and Gallup can bore us with endless political polls, they can take a minute and get to the bottom of the great Ginger/Mary Ann debate.

And its significance is magnified by the fact that they're the last two survivors. Maybe that's why I considered Russell Johnson's take important: at the time we spoke, he was the only other cast member still alive.

I can't recall the reason for the interview with Johnson. But at the end, I asked, "OK, settle the debate: Ginger or Mary Ann?"

He harumphed hard, as if I'd asked the stupidest question in the history of mankind.

"Well," he said with disdain for my ignorance, "Mary Ann, of course."

He didn't explain his choice. But, as The Professor, he must have based his decision on a logical analysis of myriad socio-economic-political factors, right?

That, or he liked Mary Ann's short-shorts.

The Professor died today at 89. RIP Russell Johnson.

Khakis and white oxford shirts tomorrow in his honor?

Rueben Kincaid also died today. Will Danny now fall off the wagon?(]

Well, now that Larry has declared this a "hotties of the 60s thread"

Hard to beat Raquel Welch and Ann Margret at the front of the decade and
Peggy Lipton (the "Mod Squad Chick" as referenced above) or Michelle Phillips during her Mamas and Papas days.

Yeah Alan, going to the firehouse to visit Dad was the same way. More bathroom breaks than usual but not too many to get caught... Thinking back I'm sure they knew anyway.

It was a great day when my sisters Victoria Secret showed up! Also had an uncle that left his Playboy's in the bathroom, loved it when Mom said we were going for a visit.

Back in the day, we had to work for our smut and it wasn't always easy to find. Today it is so main stream and so available on the interwebs, the thrill is gone. Plus look at her. She's timeless. Only 19 in 1967. She's still around (check web or FB.) She's aged a bit, not too badly preserved, but still tries to play the sex kitten a bit. Might be a little too late for that.

Disqualified Adam. Even if the thread has degenerated, it still has to be about vintage hotties that us old timers remember. (yeah, I'm making up the rules) That being said, the ultimate 60s hottie is Dede Lind (Miss August 1967) Faptastic to a generation of young teen males.

Well if this thread is just degenerating into pick your favorite hot chick in TV or movies, go see the wolf of wall street. Movie was great, even for a 3 hour flick, but the main chick in it...well, even if you don't like the story you won't feel like you wasted money.

Actually I had never been to the site or heard of it. We were always a mustang vs Camaro family My mom had a 67, I had an orange 65 coupe that my dad and I did a father son project on, replacing the original fried 289 with a 302 that might have given it a little extra pep. Plus my senior year when I was away on a school trip, he replaced the stock single exhaust with dual glass packs. Very cool. (I got to benefit from my dad's middle age crazies) and my brother had a 65 fast back with Shelby windows in the back and then a 71 fast back.) (plus the CC Mustang we had)

Anyway, I did a google image search to see what Marcia, Marcia, Marcia looked like today (she hasn't aged very well) and that thread came up. In agreement with some of the guys on the other thread, Susan Dey was a hottie in the day.

Just to rain on your parade, "Mary Ann" is now 75, "Ginger" is now 79, and for those of you who seem to prefer the older gals..if "Lovey" were still alive she'd be 113 years old.

Further research to follow on Jeannie, Catwoman, and Batgirl.

On the plus side, "Marcia Brady" is now only 56..
