Pete's method is spot on. If you want pictures, The Grinch did a log replacement on his '79 Barefoot Nautique that was documented in his rebuild thread. Try a search.
Al's concern about the strut is perfectly valid. Make sure it's straight and good to go. It's also possible that the log/strut geometry was askew from the factory, so this is a good opportunity to get everything lined up properly. |

Ha, Jeff - though my log was intact, my inlet became an outlet due to hose failure (Hmmm, that sounds a little kinky - Oh Well, I had Uncle Todd to put me straight.)

And, hopefully your strut isn't bent. If you install your log with a bent strut, you could possibly have major problems aligning your engine.

While I resemble that remark, I can still truthfully say - "it's good to have you back posting, Pete!" Dangerwil - As a guy who had his own issues with water filling his Correct Craft in the middle of the river, it's sooooooo much better to fix now than when it vibrates off in the middle of the lake. Consider the results excellent troubleshooting! Well done! |

Grind both the hull to good glass as well as all the old glass off the log. Bed the log in thickened epoxy and then glass/epoxy over the top. Make sure you insert a length of 1&1/4" tubing through the strut into the log so the log angle matches the strut.

Well it was time for some more work on the 68 Mustang today. I finished grinding the bilge. Then I decided to take a look at the shaft through hull fitting.
It was delaminated in the back and a PO's repair was to simply pour some resin in the bilge to seal it up. I had ground away all of this shoddy repair. While cutting away some of the looser bits, I gave my wrecking bar a good whack with the hammer and the entire piece popped right off of the hull. Is this a very bad thing? I don't think I have seen this addressed in the forums. Also how can I get the fiberglass off the brass fitting? |
