yup..the Command Center is now equipped with Windows 7 & 2 gigs......whatever that is. Still have all my pics too!

had to put in a call to the computer guy tho..no sound.

thanx to HW for helping me get back on here too..no matter what pass-word I tried..no go. But Kevin fixed me up.

Mac's do get virus. They just keep it quite. The Mrs has been using them for years. She got something awhile back and took it to the apple store with no appointment. They said cant happen,they will look at it later. Just then another person came in with the same problem,they took both pc's into the back and fixed them right then and nothing more was said. I have been using Dell laptop with great success trouble is it seems when you have a PC and a Mac the printer wifi is always confused and now I can only get it to work with the cord after the Mrs used it last

The biggest disadvantage to the Macbook is the cost, and the second biggest is getting used to things like "Command C" to copy and no right click.

But man, as someone who's been forced to ride a tired Vista machine into extra innings, my girlfriend's almost 6 year old Macbook sure seems like a gem. Always just starts right up. In fact, while I'm waiting for my Vista machine to get into a usable state, I often use her computer. Now that my Vista machine is over 7 years old, it probably sounds like sour grapes, but it was slow as molasses right out of the box; I'll never fully forgive Microsoft for that one.

XP and Windows 7 are pretty solid. Minimal complaints about my work Windows 7 machine... but of course, it's so locked down, it can't get itself into trouble, and I will randomly get a blue screen of death at inconvenient times, like right before a meeting I'm supposed to be leading. Haven't heard anything too great about Windows 8.

Long story short, if you have the cash, go with the Macbook. You'll most likely get a longer useful service live, so it will be worth the money.

i just retired my macbook after 6 yrs or so (gave it to my son) i bought new mac air and hope to have the same luck with it as the last . i have never needed an anti virus or pop up blocker . it took me months to get used to mac but cant imagine ever going back to windows.   if you can spend the little bit extra (figure what the windows anti virus adds) and it isnt much more

There's always Chromebook too.

If you're mostly just going on the internet and sending emails, it's probably all you need.

The only drawback is you can't use it at all if you're not on the net, but I hardly ever use a computer not on the net anyway.

I've had more problems with cheap laptops than anything else. My HP tower ran for over 10 years relatively trouble free too.

Make sure the new keyboard goes up to F12.

Jbear good luck with Windows 8 the main user interface is designed to be used on touch screen devices. A new laptop will come with Windows 8. Not much positive feedback out there for this release a bit like Windows ME and Vista.
Most of the commercial users have not moved to Microsoft's latest OS but stayed with Windows 7. Microsoft are working hard to get Windows 9 out there later this year.

Microsoft stopped support for XP on the 8th of April. This does not mean you cannot keep running it just means that there will be no more updates etc.

Well guys..the computer in the Command Center has been giving me fits. It is a Dell that we brought down here from Ohio almost 10 years ago. Sure its been updated and cleaned out and fixed up quite a few times..but now that XP has ended my computer guy sez I gotta unplug and bring 'er in to him. Gonna load up something else to run it and make it alot faster. Promises that it will run just the same for me..only better. He knows I do not handle change well.

So hopefully I'll be back in a couple days...and maybe I won't be back at all if I can't run the changes.

Sure has been a fun run here..
