I towed two fisherman in a couple weeks ago on our first day out on the lake. They offered me cash when I got them to the ramp, I said the same thing.."Thank you but no, one day, I'll need help". The guy looked at my daughter and said "take note, your father's a good man".

Was talking with my mechanic about it. He said his Dad taught him...."never accept payment for a tow". I thought that was pretty solid Dad lake advice.

I pulled a fisherman in last spring. He offered me some cash and of course I refused. I told him he can pull me in next time I break down. Of course that was hypothetical, because I NEVER break down. About 3 days later I broke down and needed towed in.

Well done Marty. Towing someone in is one thing, fixing a boat out on the water so they can continue to enjoy the day is awesome. I bet they were stunned after the jumper box didnt work (after you told them it wasnt the battery) but your trick at the solenoid did.

I'll start with my disappointment on Memorial Day. Was waiting for the yearly call from Keegan to say Let's meet up at the Lake... It never came. I E-mailed him- then a couple of days later he calls and says- My lawnmower won't run. I can turn it on 2 wheels and it runs fine . I told him- I'd fix it. So I fixed it- then he says - Let's meet up at the Lake on Sunday- I'll call ya. Well- Sunday came and no call. So Karen, the granddaughter Brianna and I load up the Purple Rain and go to the lake around 3 pm.
Well Keegan's out there because I see his Tow Vehicle and Trailer. We go to the cove he usually hangs out in and on the way I see a 1987 SN with the observer seat up and the doghouse open. There's 3 adults and 2 kids on the boat. I idle up and ask if everything's OK. He says No- the battery is dead. I pull along side of him and I met this guy 2 years ago on Memorial Day on the Lake. He and his Buddy were knee-boarding and his buddy was turning flips and doing all kinds of tricks on the knee-board.
Upon getting beside him- I say there's the problem- That Killer Stereo system he had in the floor! But he had 2 batteries and the Perko Battery switch..So I go through the checklist with the guy- breaker button on motor- ignition breaker pushed in.
He turns the Key and the alarm is going off- I say- your batteries are fine.. I told him to give me a minute- I need to let Keegan know I'm here and drop off Brianna with him - and I'll be back in a minute. I get to Keegan- tell him I'm going back over there to help the Guy out- I then see the Game Warden go to him. I get back over to him- he's given a Jump-Box back to the Game Warden- I tell him- that won't do him any good.. I tell him to turn the key again. I hear a click. I tell him for kicks to tap the starter with his hammer a few times-- Nothing still. The Alarm still blaring- I tell him to turn the Key again- and I hear the click again- I tell him it's the solenoid switch- He says- Huh?. I grab a nut driver I had in the glovebox- I show him how to jump the lugs on the solenoid switch and I'll work the throttle. Bam! She starts right Up .
The other Adults start Thanking me right away and they want to pay me- I tell them no- Just get back to the docks Safely.
