You may have the wrong solenoid. Some of them require a ground.

Our 1983 Ski Nautique 2001,315w Commander has me stumped.It will not start with the starter.I have a fully charged battery(group 65 w/850 CCA,The solonoid is also new.When I try to start the engine the starter continues to turn,to stop it I must disconecct the battery.What am I doing wrong??
