Yup, you're wrong Todd.

82-90 ski nautique got the special rotary cable with the oddball length and longer throw. The bfn and other models got it a few years later. Prior to that point, cc used standard teleflex cables that are commonly available from places like go2marine for ~$100. I've put 16' cables in 16' boats and 17' cables in 17-18' boats. You can fit the longer cable in a shorter boat, you just end up with a bigger service loop up front.

Gary, good call on the clevis kit- he will probably need one (and possibly a clamp tube) depending on the type of cable he has in there now. A picture of the aft end where it clamps to the stringer and attaches to the rudder would confirm.

Luckily it just takes a normal replacement cable,at the time I did mine Tim had found the best deals at Go2marine. The only thing we disagree on is he'll say use xx number of feet cable,my original was 1 foot longer. Either will work.

I'm sure Mike that if you wait til morning Tim will let you know what and where to get one. Not sure if you need the new style clevis at the rear tiller arm but Tim will know that too. I changed mine easily by myself start to finish took about an hour. Disconnect front and rear,tie a rope to the front pull it out from the back. Tie rope on to the new one and pull it to the front. You will need to remove the back seat and the rear center panel of the floor.. My vdrive Nautique took me the best part of 2 days to do almost the same job.
