I find that many boaters do wave, Pete, but they only wave with one finger. But seriously, I arrived at Green Lake and pulled right into the static display parking lot with my "classic" 1986 PWC just to test (and stir) the waters, as I'm sure many of you know I like to do. I was very surprised that I was politely pointed to the proper parking area and offered a job assisting with parking the boats on display. This is a very classy and kind group of people here for the most part, |

Yeah, yeah, my go-to photo I guess. I stand duly chastised. Here's a previously unposted shot. (What I really need is a new photo since I've put the original windshield back on..this taller clear "finger lakes cold-weather mod" one is a bit goofy)....

I think the traditionalists are warming up to classic glass. Last season we got chased and flagged down in this by an older gentleman in a classic Chris Craft who said we "Absolutely Must" bring it to their next classic boat event!

Bruce, I have to admit I had ulterior motives for joining... Petes cautionary tales notwithstanding, I opted for Hagerty insurance for the boats last year (big discount compared to global) and they offered a 10% discount for ACBS members. Basically a wash with member dues, so I figured what the heck.

Bruce,
I'm sorry to hear that you were treated rudely. I know it can happen with any group but I feel more noticeable with boaters. In general boaters are a pretty friendly group. No matter what water I'm on, it seems we all wave to one another.  You must have run into a northeast "snob"!

.Sounds like the ACBS leadership has their heads screwed on right, 25 years old does seem a little "new" but nothing wrong with being a little forward thinking. Maybe I'll bring my '90 to some judges events this year! (Or maybe not!) |

Well said Gary! I read the article yesterday at lunch and I do see both sides of the coin. At the show in Dora last year I heard several people say that the ACBS is going to have to been open minded and rethink the "Plastic Boat". Our showing of Classic CC's was really an eye opener to many of the traditionalists and many were climbing over the boats to have a looksie.... The Capt's Dinner on Friday night was truly an older crowd and the age of its members pretty much matched the age of their boat. It's members are dwindling and the Baby boomers, Gen X,Y are the new faces of boating. I honestly don't see a bunch of Bayliners and Ranger Bass Boats showing up for an ACBS Boat show but if they did I'm sure it would be interesting to see an almost show condition 1972 Ranger or Bayliner. They're really are some cool looking plastic boats out there that aren't CC's. I don't know too many guys who would turn their heads the other way to a 68 Corvette, Mustang etc. It'll be interesting to see how this unfolds. Thanks for posting that Bruce. |

Showing glass boats has always been a chapter option. The two chapters I belong to have allowed glass in the shows for over 10 years. They are welcome and enjoyed by both members and show attendees.

They will have to if they want to survive,when was the last time anyone went to a Conestoga wagon meet? I have heard in the past that Model A clubs are having trouble.The MGA club in Chicago had to merge with the more popular MGB club and on here you can count on both hands how many members have wood boats,one hand who actually have them water ready----
I was unimpressed when we went to our 1st Mt Dora meet in 2010 only went last year because they featured Correct Craft. When there in '10 I had overheard participants saying their attendance was down because the members either couldn't or wouldn't drive that far anymore. It's the diversity of Correct Craft Fan and it's members that has made it what it is. |

Raised my eyebrows as I read, but took a deep breath and read through, and I think I agree, as snobby as it sounds.
Initial reaction is the objection to fiberglass boats. Not the case, its the objection to 25 years show acceptance, Which is not that long, is it? Firstly, labeling Autos as "Throw away" I dispute and would be interested in seeing facts, based on percentages rather than numbers, as obviously there are more autos produced than boats. And I think his projected auto life expectancy is shorter than fact. I think the bigger goal is the preservation and presentation of an Historical item and circumstances for a younger generation. I hope they work it out. |
