I don't know crap about stereo stuff other than matching up RMS and Peak wattage. I need to study the subject more so I can speak more intelligently on the matter.

I believe the Polk MM series has an impedance of 2.7 ohms. If you go this route make sure your receiver is compatible with this lower impedance number especially if you are driving multiple speakers off a single channel.

I think the DB actually has a higher RMS rating anyways. I just don't like the grills. I modified some Nautique spec black MM grills to fit my DXIs

Why screw around with used speakers when you can get them new for $60 set shipped!

db651

MMs are nice if you are going to amp them... other wise the dbs are great for the money.

Polk has an ebay store with some pretty good prices on refurbs/returns. I'm going into my eighth season with my refub DB651s I bought there. Pretty good bang for the buck.

They still fit in the standard 6.5" round hole?

I found the DXi651 s refurbished on ebay. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger but I'm concerned about the shape of the faceplate.

My speakers fit flush in the vinyl's round hole. These look look like they have square edges.

I don't even run a head unit. I have an RCA directly into a 3.5 mic cord into my I phone. I built a little cubby under my "re designed" observers seat in the 85 that serves to hold phones and keep them from getting hot on the dash.

I phones all have a built in equalizer and I run that coupled with bass boost on the speakers. May add a sub and pull base out of the highs eventually but it rocks as is. It has a 5 year old or so Clarion 400W amp.

It bugs me to mix brands together but it sounds awesome. I love our Roswell product and Brian Harlan but the only decent speaker I could find with specs that would fit properly between my floor and the side pod shelf was the DXI.

If I go with a sub later I will probably pick up a used Polk PAD 8000.5 to keep the install as clean as possible. I just want to add as little weight to the front end of the boat as possible. I plan on building some sort of easily removable and detachable sub box when I do do it.

We did this exact set up with a Polk 10" sub and 4 dxi speakers in Tom's Response and it rocks. We used a wetsounds Blue Tooth device that plugs into the amp via a 3.5 mic in and gives you a dash knob to control volume and skip songs/pause play music (it also is the same size as the alarm hole in the dash that is already there).

PO had this great system professionally installed but the faceplate rarely comes out from under the seat..but when it does it plays the same period-correct Skynyrd cd that's probably been in the unit 2 years now...keep it original Pete!

I have 4 Bose Marine speakers and would heartily recommend them. However, I prefer the music that comes out of the transom so they are rarely played. LPSL.

You didn't mention what your budget was but take a look at the JL Audio MX650 speakers too. I have them in my 1999 Pro Air and love them. I chose the white grills to blend in with the rest of the interior.

I have a Sony marine head unit (CDX-M60Ui) which unfortunately is no longer made although you can still find NOS on eBay. The Sony has enough power to run the JLs as well as 2V preouts if you want to connect an amp.

I have some DXI651s in the 85 and they rock. They are rated for around 60W RMS and I think my amp puts out about 100 peak watts per 4 separate channels. I go into protection mode on the amp before the speakers distort.

I have those exact speakers (MM651UM) in my tower and I've been happy with them. They are hooked up to an amp.

Sony is junk!

The factory polks in the 206 sound great IMO and have held up well thru 10 seasons. Same goes for the Clarion head unit. Adding an amp will go a long way in pushing those Polks to their true capacity.

I have the db series polks in my non-CC boat. I have them on my tower, in the boat proper, and cut and installed them in the open bow. Polk had the only 4 inch marine speaker I could find to fit my bow. I have been very happy with them. I am only pushing about 45-50 watts through each speaker though. I am by no means an expert on high amp setups.

I went with a Clarion head unit because I wanted to use their waterproof remote. I can be floating behind the boat in the water and control the tunes. Thus, I am a Clarion head unit fan.

I'm getting ready to replace my ghetto rigged crappy CD player and corroded speakers for this season. I've read the threads here and it sounds like almost everyone was recommending Polk Speakers.

Those threads were older and I'm wondering if that is still the way to go? I also found a lot of negative reviews on Sony and Kenwood radios.

Anyone have something cheaper and more......."classic looking"........than these

I don't want my boat to look like a 17 year old's Honda Civic. I also don't want a radio unit that lights up like a disco. There are a million options out there and I'm just wondering if anyone has a favorite.
