I think it's a great idea as yes it does take away a lot on the way of looks with that thing on. Besides, I won't have to do it myself and fill the holes when you sell the boat to me (like you pinkie promised) cause it's too loud!

And holes are permanent. It's easy for me to say but with what I know now I would not do it. This is a perfect way to justify another boat,it worked for me

You might want to go to Green Lake and try out Gary Starr's ladder before you commit to installing one on your boat. As Gary said earlier, they're not that easy to use for everyone.

Not sure I'm following- that is the ladder I mentioned earlier from his 68 stang (scoot is my cousin). Not sure what impact any corrosion would have on the dimensions he provided, but It's actually in great shape (minus the teak steps), maybe just a little dirty. The dimensions and picture were meant to assist you in finding the hardware (it is likely to have been generic, and very possibly still available) and recreate the rails yourself. I think it would be a pretty straightforward project. I'm certain his ladder isn't for sale, if that's what you were thinking.

Check the link I posted though- that early 70's ladder listed last fall appears to be a match, if it's still available.

Hey Scootdogydog,

That ladder is perfect, for my boat, but is the image accurate? It looks like the deck mounted hardware looks corroded.

Thanks,

Kirk,
It wasn't a special order color but rather an optional color.

Yes, she has a Chrysler 318, which is perfect, because I am sort of a Mopar guy.

What a nice boat. Just like the boat in the '66 brochure. It must fly with that poly. Our early '66, (3/10/1966),is M1839.

I have a number of 68-70 mustang hull numbers recorded and yours is about 170 boats older than the oldest I have, which are very early 68's. I'd say you have an early '67, which is consistent with the Poly... Later 67's got the LM/LA chryslers.

The mustangs I've seen with original ladders did not come with clearance bars.

It will survive if your careful and you will be,the guard is much
like a vegetable peeler once you scrape yourself you won't forget

I personally would not put one on Gary, and have been thinking about removing mine,I think it ruins the look of the boat. It's not easy
getting your foot chest or shoulder high because the lowest step has
to be higher up than the bottom of the boat. It's like floating on your
back with your feet against the edge swim platform bringing your knees
to your chest and pulling yourself up with a rope. Think some sort
of rope ladder, one thats longer down into the water.

I would think Marty's 3 stepper will work. Just shorten it to fit and plug the tubing holes. Will the rope guard survive the ladder?

68 mustang ladder

Blame my employer for the lack of a decent photo editor; I had to use arrows from Visio, copied into paint. Let me know if you want any other dimensions!

Very cool boat, poly 318 IIRC. A few people has their eyes on it this last fall.

It's no newer than an early 68, more likely a 67 (possibly an early 67 based on the poly).
