Why not just use the modern adjustable mounts that bolt directly to the top of the stringers and are rubber isolated?

Just wondering about something that seems very important. I'm now about ready to put the motor back into the boat afters 10 months of restorations. My concern is that the boat has not been run out on a lake (to my estimatation) for a very long time. Possibly over 10-13 years. And my concern is that the wooden wedge motor + mounts are not a good idea to leave on the stringers.I made a lot of repairs from damage to the stringers from rot, and the front (main) mounts were the only ones that did not need to be drilled out and refilled. Meanwhile, the wedges of wood are nearly 30 years old. I asked the seller, and he told me that the mounts never had any type of isolators, bushings, or other rubber to absorb the shock and vibrations of the motor. So my thoughts are that this is incorrect, and someone must have changed it in the past. Not to mention I really don't like the idea of a mount failure out on the lake after spending all this time working on the boat. So I've read a lot of posts about using stainless steel plates in a home made fasion, as well as other brands of mounts. Can any one tell me, show me, or point me in the right direction? I'd like to save the money, so I'm very interested in constructing a stainless steel plate mount my self. My good friend is a welding engineer, so I'm sure I can get him to weld up a set of mounts if it's just something simple. I'm mainly interested in assuring a safe, smooth ride. Any help would be appreciated. Pictures would be great though. Show me your commander marine 351 mounts! :) Please and thanks!

By the way you can see my project at www.78skinautique.zoomshare.com

Please send your commander 351 motor mount pictures to Jared_J@myaccessmortgage.com
A boat is just a hole in the water to toss your money into. Here is mine! http://www.correctcraftfan.com/diaries/details.asp?ID=865&sort=&pagenum=1&yrstart=1976&yrend=1980
