Carb size wrong - problem?

Arrgh. How does a bug get into a carb? Fuel filter fine, hose cleaned out, bug leg in needle valve. Discovered that paying someone to go through a carb a bit doesn't mean much. I'm just going to rebuild this one. It looks in great shape and the boat runs better every time. Float setting was off, etc. Still some gunk here and there. Something to do with the last guy having the boat sit since 2003.

I'll do it. I don't have time, but I remembered how these things work once I popped the top off. Probably been 25 years since I've done that!

Think that's a good idea. I have a $300 fee from a small settlement I can spend on it. Probably just replace the fuel hoses. Flush the fuel pump. New filter element. New carb. Then the fuel will be fine!

I also have just an OK spark. Might get HEI. COuldn't hurt.

Nothing like a cheap boat to take care of spare cash.

If it was a problem, idle is where it would be a problem. A 1409 from summit is 295 dollars, quicker than a rebuild and probably a little better performance. Either way with a rebuild or a new 1409 I would be very sure to check the health of the entire fuel system from the tank on up I would bet there is crud coming from somewhere gumming up the works and if that is the case the New Carb wont be a silver bullet for long... Of course you could buy a new or used holley and make it original but thats bigger money or time....

1986 Martinique 351 PCM currently equipped with suspiciously new looking Edelbrock 1410 750CFM. Application chart at Edelbrock shows the 1410 as suitable for 400 to 502 cu in engines, with the 1409 at 600 cfm being tagged for 351 cu in

Any problem in continuing to use the current 1410?

This comes up in part because of persistent minor troubles strongly suggesting I need to really thoroughly rebuild the carb because the previous owner didn't use the boat for years. Carb was full of crap. Did a clean and reassemble of reasonable not impeccible quality, worked a month, now it's flooding so probably has some junk in it somewhere.

Do I rebuild the 1410 properly (no biggie, but I'm a short on time fellow with a small business) or swap it out for a 1409. Or something else. The engine only has 260 hours now and works very well indeed once on water & running. Only the idle end of the spectrum is iffy.

Thanks for cognizant advice.
