He bought them both, so we changed them both. Relay was replaced last year.

Would imagine it should have been "pump" not "pumps", likely the low pressure pump before the FCC. They seem to have about a 10yr 500hr average life, mine puked at the last GL. There is also a relay although they appear to have a longer life span.

Don't know about being hard to prime but it is likely the fuel pump, if it's not a lanyard issue. Sometimes it's a vane stuck in the pump and you can take it apart move them a bit and it'll run again. But I usually find that pump will be done sooner than later. Perhaps the pump is simply running slower on its way out making it easier for the vane to stick.

- Batteries fully charged?
- Check Rotor/Cap ( depending on the year, supposedly they are prone to condensation/corrosion issues) -Fuel filter/Fuel control cell check out ok? Fuel pressure at the rail? -Red safety lanyard pulled? I am sure there are a few more simple checks... but these should be <10-15 minutes and relatively easy. |

Hello Gentlemen,
Father of my daughter's 8 year old ski buddy owns a 2004 Ski Nautique, Excalibure (I think that's 330 HP). Boat ran like new last time we took it out 4.5 months ago. Now, won't start. Turn over, but really no attempt to fire. He's got an appointment later this week at the dealer who told him that "it's pretty common that fuel pumps on PCMs won't prime after a long layup." Sound like BS to me. I've owned PCMs for 20 year, including my current boat of the last 14 and never had this issue. In fact, I fired the boat right up last weekend, after not even uncovering it for 5 months (granted I have a ford, not a Chevy, but still). I'm no mechanical genius. Anyone seen this before? If so, what was the fix? If it is true that fuel pumps are "hard to prime" what is the fix their? Thanks, BKH |
