The 143 is for brackish/salt water applications without closed loop cooling.
A typical 160 stat for fresh water will show 180-190 indicated. Yes, sounds like you are running out of fuel flow. Disaassemble the fuel fitting and hose barb on the tank outlet. There is typically a one way valve built into the hose barb that clogs, and or a cone sceeen in the pickup tube assembly. Also check for mud wasp clogging your tank vent. |

Sounds like you have a cooling issue that needs repair. The Marine Thermostat in your 1979 351W should be a 140 degree thermostat.
Maybe someone switched yours for an automotive one. If I am not mistaken an automotive one will not allow proper flow to the manifolds. Someone here can give exact info on this. The stalling is probably unrelated but could be simple like an old failing coil on the ignition or a fuel tank feed sock that is plugging up. |

Recently my engine runs for 20-30 minutes and then stop like it runs out of gas.It will not start again until the engine cools completely. The gauge shows 180-190 degrees. Exhaust manifolds are hot but can be touched and not boiling hot. this also occurs when idling for the same amount of time. replaced the coil but still the same, could it be the module? runs fine for about 20-30 minutes. any ideas?
