Ok, got them pressed in and alignment went good. The upper one went in too easy, so I dimpled them and set the set screws and used lock tight. The set screws are brass, so I reused them.

Shawn,
The dimples are intentional and not worn in!! You don't have the wrong cutlass's but simply a different version. 2 shorts instead of one long. Press the two into the strut one from each end. If you have cup point set screws, dimpling the cutlass shell isn't needed if you get a good press fit with the brass shell and the strut bore. If you do dimple, press the new bearings in and then drill the dimples. I suggest SS set screws (yours look like carbon steel) and blue lock tight. Don't forget about the alignment!!! |

Hi All, I am replacing my shaft bearing and I see that there are set screws with spots for the set screws to set in and my new bearings don't have any, so I have a couple of questions; Are the set screw spots worn in or pre-drilled? do I have the wrong bearings all together and should I order new ones? I'm thinking about just pre-drilling them and hoping I line them up good when I press them in, or should I just hit it with a drill bit after I press the bearings in and pray I don't mess up the threads? Thanks, |
