The strut can look like a piece of spaghetti it doesn't matter. What matters is the cutlass is straight and centered to the log, and the engine can adjust to meet it.

Correct. You can't measure to a non machined surface . Strut's are a pretty crude casting. |

I'm measuring off the side of the casting which like you said is not exact with the shaft bore and mounting pattern center line.
I'll see what it looks like this weekend when I mock it up on the boat |

Are you measuring to the holes or to the side of the casting? The holes aren't nescessarily square with the casting, but should be in line with the shaft CL.
The holes in the hull can be drilled a little oversize to accomodate some error there. |

I would spin the shaft, and see if your measurement hold. If they do, you should be able to do what Tim said.

If you can align it to the log, you'll be good. The powertrain can be moved within reason (esp with adjustable mounts) to accommodate a decent amount of variation.

Just received my repaired strut from Fox Lake Propeller ($40 incl shipping, and was a great shop to deal with) and it looks pretty damn good.
The only thing is it looks like it still has very slight twist left in it. I setup a quick measurement rig which holds the strut at a right angle and the side of the cast mounting foot resting on the table. The table is a workbench and not an accurate surface to measure from but it'll work for a ballpark estimate. I used a set of calipers to measure 2 points equal distance away from the end of the strut. I came up with 0.28º. I plan on shimming the strut to make it centered with the log, but was wondering if I will have trouble when I go to adjust the engine mounts? Or maybe I'm completely over thinking this?
