The Gouwzee was part of the Zuiderzee (South Sea), an inner sea with salt water. In the 30's it was closed by a dyke and was renamed IJsselmeer. The water is sweet for a long time now.
In the 60's and 70's, the swiss Boesch was the only serious skiboat in Holland. A very nice mahogany runabout from 17 to 22 foot. Boesch was also the tournament tow boat in Europe. Powered by a 210 or 260 hp Crusader. I used to own one till 2009 till it needed a complete overhaul which is kinda pricy  For this money, you could buy two nice used Nautiques.Because of that maintenance issue, Ski Nautiques became more and more popular since the late 70's. However, the Boesch was long unbeatable for it's sweet low slalom wake.

I guess a sloop is an ok "secondary" boat - but it's kinda hard to enjoy any "skilled" water sports under wind power. Sure bet the kids love the sound of that motor - it's a whole lot more intimidating than some canvas flapping in the breeze  BTW Michael, a very nice BFN. I sure am glad to see folks representing the brand in Europe  Is the Gouwzee salt water or brackish? |

Today, there were about 14 kids from our hood. If I all take them boarding or skiing, I'am busy for the rest of the afternoon. I'm the only one with a ski boat. Their parents all have sloops (the most favorite boat over here). So they always want to join me. Soon I plan a day to all learn them to ski of board.

Was about 17 degrees C, so not that hot indeed, We have had a quite cool year. The engine is a 5.8 HO PCM. I think you can see; the hull does not sit as low in the water as a 7.4.
